@(Unverified) This makes me a sad panda, even though I don't play anymore. However it was a pretty great game.

@Puremallace

Like it or not, Purmallace is right. SWG would not be shutting down if it weren't for TOR.

@Puremallace Without even firing a shot at that.

And this, boys and girls, is how you take a revolutionary, innovative landmark in the MMO genre and kill it dead; release it prematurely and then, instead of fixing it, dumb it down for the drooling masses. Oh, well done, SOE, well done.

@Yukon Sam I could'nt agree more, even if I tried.

Game. Set. Match. Dead.

@Yukon Sam and even though you feel that way it ran on for 8 years.

@startruck
It did not run. It limped along with blood pouring from the wounds caused by the total car crash that was the NGE.

But yes, 8 years is a good effort compared to other games. It's just not an impressive life it's lead in those 8 years, particularly compared to the IP and the status of triple-A title.

@Yukon Sam I love how even though SoE made the game people liked and LA made them screw it up royally people still blame SoE. This whole experience taught me a company should never develop it's own products for it's IP's and pull the strings from the shadows so it can remain blameless, apparently. SWG came out, LA was pissed it wasn't pulling WoW numbers, made them 'punch it up'/'WoWify' and do a piss poor advertising campaign. Didn't work so SoE embarked on a multi-year attempt to fix the game only to realize it was fubar'd while LA pouted and went to some other company to give them there Star Wars WoW.

The reason this is happening makes sense on a business level, and although I'm not a fan of SWG, it sucks to see fellow gamers who do enjoy SWG losing their game and community. Make the most of the time you have left and remember the good times =)

@Sunlover: Agree 100%

I have NEVER made my feelings on the SWG CU and NGE a secret, but that dislike was in relation to how I felt utter revulsion at how us players were treated.

My sympathy and best wishes go to those who remained part of the SWG community. I can't say I know y'all well (and I was never a fan of the SWG community's fanboi's drone-like defense of SOE's actions) but I never wish this on any committed gamer community.

@Sunlover I've been playing mmos for a pretty good long time now and while I never had to deal with an mmo that I'm playing finally ending, I can imagine what the fans must feel.

But you know what I'm looking forward to what this team is going to be putting out in the future.

In before the trolls that will only rub this in the face of the current player base. This truly and really sucks. While my guild will move on to TOR, I will miss our guild city. Here's to you, Prometheus (Lok, Farstar). You've been our home for years and it looks like no other game will ever give us the tools to recreate you (unless Archage delivers the goods).

Well, that sucks, but I guess if the contract was up, it was up.

Good to hear that SOE are interested in doing more in the sandbox area, even if every other company out there is only interested in theme parks.

Eight years.... lasted a hell of a lot longer than most MMO's out there. Take care SWG and thanks for the fun!

It is sad to see a sandbox game go away. Although I've never played SWG, I almost went to check it out after the two great articles on it this past week.

Hopefully they do make another good sandbox title, I'll be waiting to see what happens.

@Carolina They have a GREAT themepark/sandbox hybrid already in Vanguard. They just need to support it!

A Vanguard relaunch could easily draw thousands of new players. Going F2P would help even moreso!

Wow... just wow.

I wish the interviewer asked about the status of Vanguard and whether or not any of the resources would be reassigned to it considering there's been no updates in almost a year.

Vanguard's been on life support forever. They're not going to assign new resources to it. Sorry.
