Does SWG have a cosmetic system like LOTRO? Not being a smart ass, I really don't know. I know not many MMO's copied LOTRO's cosmetic system and that's a shame because it should be standard in any new MMO. You have to look at your avatar whenever you play because it's in the middle of the screen. It's your digital representation so people should care how their avatar looks. I don't wanna look like a clone of every other heavy armor DPS class in the game.

@JaySpeed SWG's cosmetic system (the appearance tab) went into the game about 2.5 years ago. If memory serves me, LotRO's came well after that.

@Brianna Royce

This is true. SWG was the first AAA MMO to use an Appearance system, if memory serves. LotRO's also lacks much of the depth of SWG's.

@stealthrider I didn't know that. I guess SoE did something good with the game afterall.

Man I miss this game. I was just in there last night to get the reward offered to players after the SOE outage.

As much as i love to hate the NGE, I also recognize that most of it has been fixed and what was removed was added back, only better, with the exception f the skills progression and the targeting is still not just quite right (I want to change targets just by clicking on them, not right clicking).

My main beef is the low population. I remember how busy it was in 2003-2005. My friends are gone and there are ghost towns all over.

The graphics are starting to look dated too when you have played AoC, RIFT and other DX10/11 games.

I also miss my spacebar jump... everytime I jump by mistake in SWG, I cringe... :(

I'm glad the game is still around, and I keep supporting them with my paid accounts even though I almost never log in. I hope they keep going.

Happy bday SWG, you gave me my best MMO memories to date.

I'm a very old SWG player and was considering trying it out due to having this free time from SOE...so...where's this alleged RP to be found? Sounds fun.

I really want to give this game another shot because I love the setting and the sandbox, but I remember some very annoying gameplay issues that have to be fixed before I even think about resubbing:

Massive rubber-banding: Last time I played I sometimes got massive rubber-banding spikes which could cause my char to become stuck for quite a lot of time.

Strange NPC aggro: I also remember that most of the NPCs had very strange (and bugged?) aggro ranges. Some red NPCs at the same level I could stand right next to for several seconds before they attacked, some attacked from well outside max range and others didn't attack until I had run past them and was on my way over the next hill.

NPCs stuck in walls: Not much to say here. Lots of NPCs were stuck in walls or objects.

After the Legacy: Last time I played I didn't get to max level because I couldn't summon the willpower to grind the last 30 or so levels after the legacy quest ends.

Had any of these issues been fixed? And has the legacy quest been expanded?
If anyone could answer these questions I would really appreciate it.

Anyways, happy bday SWG!

@Faryon

The last time I played the rubber banding and bizarre animations were still there (along with the horrible, horrible particle effects). Same with strange aggro...I'd get mobs from far, far away warp to me suddenly and attack. Also, there still isn't any additional Legacy content so you still have to grind for the last several levels.

@Faryon

Actually the post-Legacy leveling isn't as bad as it used to be. You can now get directed to new content from the last Legacy NPC you talked to, for one thing. Also, they added the Meatlump themepark and revamped Nym's Stronghold. You can do a certain amount of missions from terminals per day with really good returns (especially with an Entertainer XP buff). At higher levels, there's also the addition of the Azure Cabal missions, the Witches of Dathomir and Death Troopers. At the very least, using the new post-Legacy content and daily missions should get you well on your way to Kashyyyk.

I used similar methods to those I listed when getting a new character up to 90, and I still have a ton of content that I never even got around to starting.

I played this game for the longest time, largely because I loved the space component.

I quit for what may seem a frivolous reason: I got my hands YT-style "Han Solo" freighter and then realized that I couldn't even fly it unless I had a player crew on board, manning the guns and such.

I fully realize that I couldn't /fight/ with no crew aboard, but my Smuggler character was a great pilot. The fact that I couldn't even choose to fly the ship from Planet A to Planet B put me off the game somehow.

Sometimes, it's the small things which get you.

@mysecretid

You can fly ALL POB ships such as the YT-1300, 2400, Nova Courier and the rest of them without a flight crew. Just don't plan on exchanging blaster fire against enemy ships and flying at the same time on all of them. Some of these larger vessel do have pilot controlled weapons though.

Just came back in (and I quit even before NGE because of Item Decay) and I am still trying to figure it out and learning because everything is a new lesson now. Plus, deciding what server to spend my time on (I got one "okay" level on Starsider but two toons are homeless and deciding where to put them now). I want to keep with Starsider, but have to relearn the ropes. Chilanstra also looks alright, but no transferring there (only new characters) so that leaves Flurry, Ahazi and Bria as choices for the transfers, barring making a new character).

I do admit, the graphics are a bit painful in the dated department and I am trying to learn how to customize controls (and maybe add in my Microsoft joystick, which doesn't seem to auto-recognize). But, I am still commited because of the 45 free days SOE has given me.

Greetings Massively readers! I played SWG trial a year ago and it was super fun game, even if some parts of the worlds and graphics seemed outdated(I love COH, so i can def get into a game with horrible graphics and environments, when compared to newer games)

The problem I have is this...

I am wondering whether I should sub to SWG and play it now, or wait for SWTOR. I know if I play now I'll def be hooked and probably not play SWTOR when it realeases. BUT, I know if I wait for SWTOR and play that first, then I'll probably NEVER play SWG.

So, what do you guys think? Will SWG still be around after SWTOR arrives? Or will all the SWG players (or most) run over to the new SWTOR and never return to SWG?

I love older games because they are REAL mmoRPGS, where you get action, exploration and RPing - rather than just races with a bunch of level rushing morons that only care about playing at level cap.

Any information and advice is appreciated, especially by anyone that has played or loves BOTH games and had played SWTOR's BETA.

Thanks in advance for any tips or info you can give me on both games, S!

@(Unverified) Play SWG now, it's pretty cheap to buy. Play it for what it is while it lasts, it has a lot to offer. When SWTOR comes out, probably within a year, go try it too. One is a sandbox with quest lines tacked on, the other is a total theme park. Both Star Wars, but very different approaches.

If you decide to stick with SWTOR, you'll probably meet other SWG players and you can share stories. If you prefer to stick with SWG, you can do so without always wondering if the grass is greener in SWTOR.

If you are a Star Wars fan, you owe it to yourself to try both :)

Played pre-NGE and have played post-NGE. Still a great game with lots of things that should be standard in other games. Do miss the Skill trees though; that was the best way to handle classes I have ever come across.

Happy B-day SWG!

Shouldn't the headline read Star Wars Galaxies final beta entered production 8 years ago as they didn't give a dam what the beta testers said was still broken with the game? And they had to have it out by today since all the promotional materials were printed with launch day proclaimed?

Still bitter? Oh hell yeah and no you can't have my stuff since gee they nuked my server that I was on so my character and stuff is gone.

Oh had totally forgotten that SWG turned 8 now!

I had lots of great time in the game (despite issues and bugs) back in 2003. Tried the game twice after the NGE, but did not quite like it back then and it was buggy - that was a couple of years ago though.

Maybe time to have a look at it again.
