Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is coming to Steam. The mythology-inspired MMORPG, launched yesterday by Heatwave Interactive, is now available on Valve's North American digital distribution platform and will available worldwide later this week (June 24th, to be exact).
Aside from the convenience of avoiding a retail purchase, Steam customers will also receive a traditional platform-exclusive in-game item, in this case a mythical minion called a Gorpal. The Gorpal is a damage-dealing Phorcid pet that "protects players by fighting with claws and a poisonous bite," according to a Heatwave press release.
Check out our Gods & Heroes launch day coverage for more on the game, and don't forget to stop by the official website as well.

Best of luck but I'm going to predict future free to play.

@pross182 Easy prediction, I agree. Not saying it's bad, just saying it needs work and well these days even major-budget AAA end up on some kind of "freemium" setup soon after launch. It's the way of the future, I'm amazed anyone even tries the ancient and out-dated box/monthly type plan anymore. It's dust from the bones of fossils, it's over, accept it already people. Move forward.

@Saker Its not that "free to play" is the way to go, its that many people dont want to keep paying to play "WoW clones."
This games setting is very cool but the gameplay is tired.

@Saker
first, the few (not many) P2P MMos that went freemium shortly after release did so because they were simple trainwrecks.
APB and HGL come to mind, thats it. The others, you cant really say "shortly", can you? almost 3 years for AoC, 2 years for CO, 6 years for CoX, etc etc.
The root of all this is that a few years ago there was some kind of MMO bonanza, and developers though they could release unfinished, bugged to the core pieces of clone craps and make a fortune.
The P2P players showed them how painfully wrong they were...I love my boyz...
Now they have realized that if they want idiotic masses to milk, they should look no further than the F2P crowd...a game which is of an unacceptable low level of quality in P2P is a godsend in F2P.
Thats the thing with F2Ps, devs can release garbage, because everybody expects garbage, and anyway free garbage is good garbage for many...
The poster child of F2P games is LotR, an ancient old game that never fulfilled its own potential and was starting to spiral down into oblivion before moving to the greener pastures of free to play.
and its miles ahead of the second competitor in the F2P top 10 chart.
that speaks volumes about the quality the model can offer.
In the meantime recent and upcoming games like Rift, SWTOR, TERA GW2 WoD WAR40K are all avoiding the F2P movement and asking for money upfront, in boxes and (minus GW2) in subs too...
why?
because the P2P model is the best if you have a product that isnt shameful.
dont worry, you can have them too...in 5-7 years or so...
I feel almost ashamed of hearing F2P players claiming victory when an ass old/trainwreck game moves to F2P to milk the dead cow a bit more while its still warm...
I always get the picture of hobos scavenging a trash container, finding that one of the ribs I threw away 30 minutes ago still has some meat.
I pity you...

When I was playing Beta, it really felt like a free to play game. The quality just isn't there to justify a monthly fee.

Such an eh game it's no even funny. I can't believe it getting the amount of publicity it is, within 4 months max it will be f2p, give it another 4 and it will be closed down.
This game is so stock standard!

If there's one Latin phrase that applies to this game, it's:
CAVEAT EMPTOR.

I remember reading about this game back in 2005, then it was unfortunately cancelled, but brought back to life later on by another studio. It's unfortunate that it looks so dated already, the engine wasn't updated I guess and they completed the game according to the source they acquired.
