First thought, "what a stupid name!"

Second thought after I recalled Turbine are probably the devs, "they better update their horrible character models and animations!"

Now I will admit, the worlds Turbine make are incredibly detailed, look amazing and have some great vistas to explore and die in, but damn do their avatars & animations suck!

Im with you on this. I have posted before that Lotro and WOW need to revisit their character models tostep into the current generaton. To me that is the only thing holding these games up from being current. I do hope with the Potter MMO they do step up the models.

Agreed. LotRO LOOKS amazing! But the character models and the way their horrible engine renders the environment is so unfortunate. High end graphics and high end graphical "performance" are two very different things. Give me a game Free Realms which is graphically simple, yet runs smooth as silk and is responsive instead of one that has ultra-realism yet comes with engine glitches galore and laggy input controls.

Not that I play Free Realms. Uh hum...

But no I really don't but it and WoW for that matter have simple graphics, yet tremendous performance and a cohesive art style I really admire.

Though I disagree with your first thought, since I happen to like the name, I strongly agree with your second thought. LOTRO's character art and animations have bothered me from the very beginning. Turbine really needs to do some serious work in this area.

I've never really understood this community hatred for the LoTRO character models/animations. I've always been fine with them, happy even! Always surprises me how many "Yes, I agree", "I know, right" etc. etc. comments there are after someone mentions it.

I can't think of a better company to work on a Harry Potter MMO if it ever eventuates.

@Khalus Yeah, their character models are pretty ugly and the gear is among the worst I've ever seen.

@(Unverified) Im with you. I have no issues with the visuals and I think the characters models/animations and gear are fine. But to each their own.

Couldn't agree more with your comments in regards to LOTRO. I love the classes and their combat mechanics. However, due to the horrible looking character models, I can't bring myself to play the game.

When you consider how beautiful the environments in LOTRO are, the character models just don't seem to fit in the world. And, don't even get me started on how the models look when they are in a running motion.

As far as the Harry Potter MMO, if I remember correctly, wasn't it announced at one point that several of the Turbine staff were being pulled from LOTRO to work on a secret project. 2+2=4?

The domain is owned by a Christopher Little Literary Agency in London.

Doesn't look like anything game related.

I really think this is nothing more than a portal website, a one stop location for everything Harry Potter related, from the books, to the films, to the games.

Maybe one day it will host an MMO, but I doubt very much that this is how they plan to announce the MMO. If it was ready to talk about they would've made the noise at E3.

Nice clues, but yes, I am thinking this is also not really a true game. It may be a social site and a place to go for Harry Potter fans. That may include simple chat rooms and maybe some mini-games, but who knows?

The speculation about the name "Pottermore" could easily be anything, even a future house/school run by/inspired by Harry Potter, meaning, this is just a social-media website.

...

And now I am thinking about "the owls are congregating" comment. Owls drop the letters for admission at school (and other mail)....

Origin was working on a Harry Potter MMO before EA shut them down. This was around the same time they were working on a Wing Commander MMO... and before UO2 was cancelled I believe.

Maybe this one will have a better outcome...

Keeping the Potter name would surprise me for a book. If she had wanted to keep writing Harry Potter books you'd think she would have just kept going instead of publicizing the current book as the last in the series.

I didn't read the discription. it's some sort of social online hub and not a book. Yeah I forgot to read.
