The only thing rift has going for it , imo, is the instances. WoW has peaked and will be dethroned in the near future, watch. The Old Republic and GW2 are the future.

No, not really, since EQ1 had outdoor, 72-person raids that weren't in instances and required camping and patience in order to find; also, EQ1 didn't have heroics, didn't have dungeon finders and had other stuff to do.

Old troll is old.

Your quibbling over details that aren't even what we are talking about. The point was you had to progress through the raids to get geared up just like all the MMOs that followed.

The first time I climbed the stairs to this place in BETA and looked around I thought... This will be something special when it comes to life. Now it's a reality and I'm looking forward to this event and raid... and that mount!

Too bad this is about the only time I'll get to see Hammerknell. As a player who almost always rolls dwarf -- this really disappoints me. I was really hoping to get to explore the confines of this dwarven ancestral home. Instead, Trion took the WoW template of getting the "whole server" involved in opening the place up and then the raiders are the ONLY ones that get to actually experience the content within.

Really f'ing lame, Trion.

This look great... now if only they'd add a dwarven city to the game.. one capital just is boring.. and they're not even that big.. Anyways impressive as usual Trion.. Whichever side of the line in the sand you stand in.. new content coming as quickly as it is is impressive to say the least.

If it's any consolation, Borrin Gammult, the leader of the dwarves, was the master architect of Sanctum. [http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Sanctum]

Played it to cap, quit two days after hitting cap..I instantly knew i would never go back.

Game is bland and uninspired.

@Zethe indeed, Trion did a decent job at copying WoW to the molecular level...but as we all expected, all that produced was a boring, soul-less imitation of a game.

no wonder people are leaving in droves...

I wonder if there will ever be a thread where every thread is logical, there are no trolls, and people aren't afraid to admit that their game is not original. But...at least it is popcorn entertainment =)

@The Minn

The game's "general mechanics" aren't original.

Rift's story....original.

Rift's lore... original.

Rift's Rifts... original.

Rift's Soul System....original.

Rift's other systems ..... all improvements from bits and pieces from other games (invasions improvements from Tabula Rasa's invasions, Raids improvements from any other game's raids, graphics improvements of anything, and so on).

Rift is generic Heroic fantasy in a generic MMO.The soul system was original on paper but as you progress to end game it turns out into the generic raid or die class system...you can't be any class you want as they advertised.

They could have delved more into the soul system but the game knows me for what I am(an Ascended) not Who I am depending on my souls and could have branch on quests which could have opened the story of the said soul.Rift has missed the opportunity to be a great MMO with a solid rpg element but turn into an FPS with some RPG element instead.

I don't see how recycling low level dungeons into Expert T1 and T2(Thanks to blizzard) is improvements from other games. It's just that they were out of time and could not finish Hammerknell

Have to agree here i played rift and while it seems like you can pick any class to go with any after a while it just shows it to be like any other game except with a few more "Specs".

As a rogue i was pretty much forced into four different specs when i played. Wow has three different specs per 10 classes. EQ has what? 14 classes?

The rifts are just annoying after the first few days and a waste of time mostly.

Story, lore...Same thing, really. All games have this.

It's hardly as original as everyone bangs on about.

Rift's rifts are not original they are an improved PQ and the soul system is not even close to original. The matrix online allowed you to spec into any thing and mix and match, they just made it more restrictive and grouped them together under the name "soul". The lore and story may be original ish but it is uninspired and bland. Rift does have some cool instances though.

have to disagree on only a couple things. The Rifts are just like 'public quests' but renamed and better executed. The soul system is just like any other MMO except you have more choices, and some don't turn out so great. Both the 'public quests' and 'soul system' are not original but they do a much better job. I never said I disliked RIFT; my post had nothing to do with hating on RIFT, actually.

That content looks really well done!

Should be lots of fun for Rift fans.
