PK AND Permadeath?

No thank you. I'll just stay home and cut on myself. It'd be more fun.

I thinking that too, but it sounds like if you're a ghost you can always retrieve your corpse, along the lines of EQ's corpse runs.

Would be harsh though if the PKers are still camping your corpse when you come to retrieve it though :(

@(Unverified) Got to say, I'm thinking the same... I'm all for old school, playing EQ on the progression server now, but permadeath and pk, that sounds not-fun.

Those short people things look a little too much like Taru Taru (or Lalafail, whatever they are called now).

@Keen and Graev

Whatever they are, they look like nothing that has ever existed in any of the old Wizardry games. Looks like Final Fantasy with the Wizardry name slapped on it.

Well, the game has mainly been in Japanese hands for a long time under various studios, so some Asian influences does leak in.

But yes, I do agree. A bit too FF-like.

"And to that end, you won't find a linear path funneling you through the dungeons, and your minimap won't show the exact location of your next objective."

You have my attention...psst, how about no mini map at all...

If you played previous Wizardry games you would know that even with minimal minimap, you can get lost VERY easily.

Minimap sort of helps you to figure out the direction you are going towards.

Player Killing, looting each other and permadeath seem like a very poor combination to me . . . of course, I'm not a PvP interested person, but still having "i'll kill you and you'll lose everything including your character" seems no fun at all.

Wizardry? Seriously? Holy crap, that was a name I didn't think I'd ever see again, except on old CDs and maybe GOG or whatever. Of course, it could be interesting if they did it right. They were a pretty impressive series, to say the least. Now, if I actually believed it would be possible without the company screwing it up, I'd say they should make a Might and Magic MMO (based off of the RPGs, not the terrible turn based strategy games they seem so fond of now).

Oh, right, also, Permadeath will never survive to the final version of the game. People won't fork over money if a lag spike will destroy hundreds of hours of work that they've put into the game. Simply saying that the game is for hard core people who like a challenge, then make the monsters harder. Otherwise, the game will instantly become a niche thing that will never make them any profit.

They actually released a new Wizardry game over the PSN, a little more "Anime" than I expect but its $15 US, and the demo lets you level up to 5 and explore a the first floor or so of the Dungeon of Trials which... is an evil trial...

While I welcome this "blast from the past" (I've even played some of the Japanese versions), none of my own party members (NPCs) ever wanted to attack each other in a dungeon.

I am sure this may delight PvPers, but this is not the real spirit of Wizardry.

There have been other games that already have done this and they've only had a modicum of success, but, maybe this will find a nice sized niche market, like Daggerfall or Shadowbane.

Not sure about "ghosting to your body" part in their definition of PermaDeath.

That trailer was certainly interesting, "Play this game, get ripped apart by demons!"

@Nef

You know, that pretty much describes Wizardry franchise ;)

You navigate claustrophobic maze-like dungeons, full of dead ends, traps, trying to find the right patch and not to jump on very dangerous things there.

Some places can make you go in circles for hours. One wrong step into a, for example, floor trap and you might fall down a few levels down where you did not want to go.

Low on hp, low on mp, low on hope, you find a secluded corner of the dungeon maze to set up a camp, only to get attacked in the sleep by fiends roaming the dungeon and get slaughtered, if you are not ready.
