Have they come up with any original names are they just pinching all of them from the Cthulhu mythos?

I think that they are taking virtually all their mythos from existing stories/legends/lore ... The idea being that "all the stories you have heard are true".

The game has been in a 'playable' development state for more than a year. Check out the GDC '11 video for more info. Right now is apparently 'location week' for Funcom and they are likely to flesh out much of the game's locations.. so far we've seen the locations centering around the Illuminati.. possibly their starting zone area. They still have some Dragon and Templar affiliated locations to go. Hopefully Transylvania will get previewed soon for the Templars, and wild speculation here, but Australia, Ayer's Rock for the Dragons.

@Figure

Ragnar has already confirmed that kingsmouth is not starting zone. Its just one of the "branched missions" that are all over the world. Everyone(most likely) starts in the major cities.

"and a degree from Innsmouth Academy opens many doors for a budding magus and occultist."

Might wanna be careful what doors you open in Innsmouth.

They've already added a new location today, it seems there's 1 each day so far, maybe it's for the whole week.

Here you can find the new location, the Accursed Woods, just like the others also in the Kingsmouth area: http://www.thesecretworld.com/news/location_revealed_the_accursed_woods

"Beneath the dying moon, the angry sky and the dense canopy of the New England backwoods; in the shadows of towering trees and gnarly roots; below the soft soil and the pale grass, deep down in the haunted ground, in the nethermost caverns, they slept. From time to time, one of hideous things would stir, hungrily, and slowly make its way to the surface."
