"He even let it slip that SOE will be adding a 25th class this year ". Does this mean finally they will be adding the Beastlord class???

@liquescent

Oh, please let it be so!

There is really no other class that anyone wants. Plus Rift has a Beastlord type class and smedley does not like being shown up by Hartsman.

@Yellowdancer Problem is people want a beastlord from EQ1 which just won't happen, the class still presents problems on EQ1 and they regret it to this day. If they add a beastlord don;t expect a 1:1 version from EQ1.

@ApathyCurve

I play on three 24" monitors in eyefinity every day. Works perfectly.

This article really reinforces why I've returned to EQ2.

I don't care about 3D (since I play at 2560x1600 and no 120 Hz displays are available at that size -- or could even be rendered with reasonable settings if there were). But that tiered approach to flying mounts is actually really cool. It's novel and different.

Beyond that, the new way they're going to be introducing content and features shows that the developers "get it". I remember how one of LotRO's big selling points was the regular introduction of major new content chunks. (Evendim and Forochel in just one year.) Yet somehow that fell by the wayside. Now EQ2 is planning to pick that model up and make it quarterly? Wow. I hope they take an approach where they alternate between high level content and lower level stuff. That way max characters will have new stuff available twice as often as the traditional expansion route while there's also added incentive to create alts. Of course, it would be amazing if they added content for both brackets with every quarter, but I doubt that's reasonable to expect. :)

I already tell my friends that no other MMO has the sheer amount of content that EQ2 offers. Once these new plans come to fruition, people would be nuts not to try it.

Oh, Sony...

They use the term '3-D' in the same way used 'High-Def' for the longest time. It's more of a buzzword now that absolutely everything needs to have access to. There's also a reason why people can barely stand the 3DS and the headaches that it causes if you screw around with it for more than a couple hours at a time.

I really can't wait until they skip over the 3-D fad into something a little more worthwhile for most people's time.

As for the mounts, sounds great to me. I look forward to being able to try them out.

The mount in the first picture looks really grumpy, don't know if I would trust it hehe.

I wish they would revamp the game engine instead of add 3D or whatever.

The game runs like absolute garbage on many modern PCs, including mine.

3D at 19 frames per second is liable to make me vomit.

Seriously? I play at 2560x1600 with nearly max settings and still average over 60 fps in most areas. Anyone who's having trouble running EQ2 on a "modern PC" should spend some time in the advanced graphics settings. There are a huge number of tweaks you can make to improve your performance while still having the game look good.

Five years ago, it was a challenge to run the game at anything close to max settings. But modern PC's have become a lot more powerful in the time since, to say nothing of the fact that SoE HAS revamped the game engine. A few times, in fact.

@aurickle

I've attempted to get into Everquest 2 on many, many occasions. At least eight times thus far, with four different PCs.

I have spent hours of my life doing nothing but tinkering with the graphics options. I've beaten some fully-featured video games in less time than I've spent testing out a dizzying number of option combinations.

I can run Crysis 2 at 40+ FPS, but I cannot get more than 30 FPS with Everquest 2 at medium settings, which look terrible these days.

RIFT runs better for me than EQ2 - and that game came out two months ago.

SOE may have tinkered with the engine, but its multicore support is still dreadful. They should get on that.

The problem with 3-D is that our brains and our eyes already adapted very well to seeing 2-D images in 3-D -- no external device is needed. The main problem with 3-D technology is that it actually looks LESS natural than standard 2-D pictures and animation because of this. It's not natural to see things flying out of your screen. That's actually counter-immersive.

I think that's why, for the most part, 3-D in movies is slowly petering out (yet again, as it always has in the past). It's a gimmick that really adds very little to the table.

DC Universe looks very nice in 3-D so I imagine EverQuest will as well. Sony seems very dedicated to the whole thing as E3 coverage shows and footage from their new 3- D camcorder is very beautiful. So far Haldurson is right-there aren't any good 3-D films coming from Hollywood-so make your own!

So far few MMOs are very good at it. LOTRo is nice , except for the sky. STO/Champions have it but do nothing with it ( UI is on the picture-plane,everything else is on a flat plane in the mid-distance);Rift is a mess ( but hackable I'm told), Conan is a disaster; hopefully TSW will have it fixed. Haven't tried any others. Hopefully the next-gen games:Archeage,Guild Wars,Blade & Soul,etc. will have true DX-11 and 3-D implemented.

RPGs can be really excellent at it. Once you've seen 3-D done well in a game-you will not go back to flat.;
