A lot.

I don't really "MMO" much these days, being that I'm not really interested in anything on the market. But I do read a lot about upcoming games.

Quite a bit -
Not playing EVE actively, but still active in forums (mainly k.com).
Reading many WoW/Rift based forums/blogs as well as Massively.

I currently have WoW and Rift subs going. Only going to keep one, but not really sure which.

Carefully anticipating GW2, but apart from that I can't really see anything else (worth playing) on the horizon, MMO-wise.

I certainly read more than I play. Plus if you count listening to MMO podcasts like this one and gamebreaker tv's legendary and stoked... I spend a whole lot of time indeed.

A huge ammount, since mostly quitting Everquest after a tumultuous 11 year affair, I now can't seem to find a new home; so i spend the bulk of my time as a tourist. Consequently, Massively is one of my regular stops these days, to see what is new and (more importantly) what has gone free to play.

Since I now tour MMO's, I read a lot about the lore and general history about the ones I missed ;)

I spend way more time reading than playing...sadly now adays games have a hard time gripping me. It must be something truly spectacular for me to keep on until the end.

I spend far more time reading than I do playing, lately, and that'll only get worse during E3 this week.

Quite a bit of time reading vs. playing: 2:1 ratio, likely. I maybe get an hour a day of solid gaming, but in between sneaking in articles at work and reading before bed, I probably am up around 2 hours a day of reading about MMOs. The perils of getting older and families, alas.

Kind of a given, yea. But the real question is, how much time do you spend researching a game when playing a game? Researching a game to understand it better totally breaks my immersion from that game.

@redsolar

Interesting. Me, too. No interest in reading about skills, raids, maps. I enjoy discovering that stuff on my own. Including dealing with my own tragic choices in skill trees.

Most of the time I'm waiting on a simulation or nursing a batch job, and while playing games while working is verboten, forum lurking isn't.

I agree with the majority here. I read the articles about as much as I do playing them, sometimes more. Some nights or weekends I barely touch any MMO, but yet I have 7 different MMO sites on my Google Reader RSS list, and I haven't missed an interesting article yet.

If I can't keep up with the games themselves, keeping up with the news around the games makes it feel like I'm not missing anything. So when I feel like jumping back into the game, the transition is much smoother as I already know the changes, and don't have to waste time relearning the game.

Thanks, Massively!

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that my /played time in TOR will take a long time to catch up to my /played time reading about TOR.

I spend exactly 9,000 % more time reading about MMOs than I do actually playing them.

Much more time reading than playing.

And absolutely no interest in reading about class, dungeon, lore specific to what I play.

I just enjoy reading about MMOs in general.

More time than I care to admit. Sure beats reading cases and doctor reports.

I've spent about 30min trying the free trial of Rift and a few hours leveling in WoW, that would be my total MMO playtime this year. On the otherhand I've most likely spent at least a day of my life reading Massively articles over the same timespan.

A job that is mostly downtime, plus an inability to be captivated by what I have dabbled in, has resulted in the above. I will admit do prioritize games that I actually play over those I do not, but I guess it's still strange that I find interest in a genre that has, for the most part, not been able to grab me.
