The TERA news beat has fairly quiet recently. Aside from the Korean server merges, there hasn't been a whole lot new to report regarding the exiled realm of Arborea. Fansite TERAPvP to the rescue, then, courtesy of an interview with En Masse community manager Evan "Scapes" Berman.
The interview is brief, and if you've been the following the game closely, you've probably heard most of this before. For casual fans, or those just getting wind of all things TERA, there are a few interesting PvP nuggets that might be worth your time.
First up is the question of character transfers between PvE and PvP servers. TERAPvP points out the balance issues inherent in allowing players to level (and gear up) their characters on a PvE server before moving them to a PvP shard. Berman doesn't give a definitive answer as to whether this will be allowed or not, saying that it's something En Masse will "have to evaluate for TERA." Friendly fire is also a no-go in TERA's PvP combat, and there is no experience loss or item degradation. As Scapes says, "items in TERA do not have a durability mechanic."

In case anyone is wondering what this "light death penalty" actually is, and then found themselves a bit annoyed at not being told what it actually is right here (as was I) then here is the full quote about the death penalty:
"Scapes: Penalties for death due to PvP are largely the same as PvE death penalties. No experience is lost and items in TERA do not have a durability mechanic. The character's stamina bottoms out, reducing HP and MP totals, and there is a chance that socketed crystals might be destroyed. This crystal loss may be something we limit to PvE deaths due to the frequency of deaths during PvP."

Without a death penalty, I tend not to care if I die, which becomes severely boring very quickly. I'm surprised companies still have to worry about server transfers. It's a feature that should have been streamlined long ago, in my opinion.

People always act so worried about people leveling up on a non-forced PvP server and then transfering. This is silly really since in modern MMOs you hit max cap quickly. The real reason they are worried is that they will lose out on the lowbies that they can gank without any risk for their griefing enjoyment.
Let's be honest, people transferring into a PvP server does not imbalance anything since everyone spends their real PvP time at max level fighting other max players.
If this were the old days where in Asheron's Call when it could literally takes years to grind to max level I could agree. In modern MMOs it is a ridiculous thing to be concerned about.

@SnarlingWolf in TERA most if not all the best items are farmed in world boss raids.
the difference between playing in a PvE server and a PvP server hence becomes massive
in PvE ones you can just have the world bosses on farm mode and only care about doing more damage than the opposition if any shows
in PvP servers you will be more concerned about the battles during the fight instead of the boss itself
so yep, farming easymode PvE servers, then transferring with your uber leet equip that you didnt have to fight for, IS a concern for many,,,,

Losing your crystals sounds like a pretty harsh penalty in my opinion, specially if it's something like a battleground where you will be dying a lot.
Though that'd depend on how expensive they are.
If not too expensive it'd be a nice way to keep the economy flowing and give people something to think about before running to death, if too expensive, it'll make pvp require a lot of time consuming grinding to keep the crystals coming.

I thought Aion's female armor was silly and bordering on being too lingerie/tutu-ish at times, but that screenshot really takes the cake. She's wearing a sheer teddy and panty hose? Seriously?! That has to be the worst costume design for a fantasy game I've seen so far, unless it's supposed to be a 'wank fantasy' game. =P

@bonkbonks So the males wear silk boxers/a$$less chaps with speedos or something? Sounds hilarious.
I like my games with cool looking fantasy-world armor, rather than with people running around looking like models from an underwear catalog.

Haven't seen speedos but there were open shirts with skintight leather pants for dudes.
And plate armor is just as hot, girls wear iron bikinis and stuff.
But that's just the Castanic race, they all look like models. Elves do as well.
In Tera the same item will look different depending on the class and gender.

Ah yes, the female Castanic run is also pretty lolarious. Silk teddy armor + bent over 90 degrees while running so you can see right up it = win, I guess. xD

The armor design is a style. You like it or you hate it. The armor is designed with a lot of care, high details and its different from anything you can see in other games. Each set of armor is different on each race. No game is doing that! Better to see some fantasy, and some creativity than always the same boredom.
Now I understand that it's not the taste of everyone, and yes indeed you will see a lot of "fan service". I myself don't like all armors, but i appreciate the work and the creativity.
Back to main subject AKA Tera PVP : a lot of pvper are not happy with those announce and I understand them. As there will have PVE server and PVP server they could have been a bit harder on penalties as it's the wishes of tha majority of pvpers.
