The video showing players building a dock and then a ship from nothing, and setting out exploring was amazing. The article said they discovered all kinds of uncharted islands, many populated by players in player-created towns who had been faster than them at exploring.

Seriously, really really cool.

This is what MMORPG was and I'm more than happy that a game company is bringing it back.I just hope that they will stay true to their vision and not get diverted as soon as the mass from the W game come in and whine that it takes to long to craft.

Looking good so far, if they could even bring back 10% of what UO was like back then ill be heavily interested in this game.

While the game looks good so far, labor points are hardly an unique system (and most certanly don't make the game unique, despite what that rather fanboyish-sounding article says). Forsaken world has almost exactly the same system, the only difference is that the points are split between gathering and crafting.

It's always better to avoid calling something "unique" unless one knows the whole market :D

@Abriael "Labor power is one of the few things that makes ArcheAge truly unlike most MMOs. We like it."

Truly unlike most MMOs.

Unlike most MMOs.

Most MMOs.

I can't find "unique" in that sentence, bro.

im definitely being skeptical, and a little cynical here i know: it is highly unlikely they will have the server infrastructure to support thousands of players plus all this nifty building stuff without lag. just sayin. it looks great with a few people logged on...hopefully the entire project wont fall apart when they reach beta.

This is exactly what im thinking. Either the system will be very cool, or really, really bad.

If they have a large playerbase, won't the game fill up with houses?

@Zethe Houses are limited to large swaths of space indicated on the world map with housing icons. There are exceptions, but on the two regular continents, housing is kinda restricted to those designated "neighborhood" areas (they're large enough not to feel confining, though). On islands and the third continent, houses can be put anywhere.

Im guessing some sort of rental system then to stop the land just filling up and newer players 1-2 years down road unable to buy land.

I'll be trying the game, along with SWTOR. These two look like the only decent games coming out for a long while.

Part of me wish they both would hurry up because i have nothing to play, the other part of me wants them to take longer and make sure the games are good enough.

Sorry SWTOR and GW2, this has moved into my "most wanted" spot.

I can't believe I'm saying this.

@cowboyhugbees

GW2 is still 1st in my mind followed by AA and SWtoR. I'm reservedly optimistic towards all three games -- having had my heart broken over most of the recent releases. Have to give the folks at XL Games props for having the cojones to post more vids showing actual gameplay and the UI. (C'mon ANet! Love your vids but show us the UI in action, please.)

Makes me wonder what kind of system we'll need to run ArcheAge at full strength. Anyone know?

@yeppers

Not sure, but it's Cry-engine 3, so I'm sure you might be able to find a benchmark program for the Cry-Engine 2 or 3 out there.

Seems like they are doing what FFXIV was trying to do. FFXIV is rumored to have shipbuilding and housing by players down the line once they change the battle system, put in new classes and add new content.

They even have the same type of picture shown above with characters looking off into the horizon like the FFXI/FFXIV games.

I wish this game a lot of success, because this is how I think MMOs should be played; not with questhubs of npc after npc telling you to kill mo' rats.

Epic content with epic rewards of adventure. Good luck Archeage.. good luck.

Heh, exploration. Do people really believe in that? This is how "exploration" will be done: look up the Korean wiki, translate it, rush and grab all the cool islands before the rest can go "huh?"

It does sound like this is what ffxiv could've been. Can't wait to try it.
Btw not everyone will use wikis to explore. Not everyone explores just to get the cool stuff. Some explore to... well.. just enjoy the journey into the unknown.
Can't wait!

Hmm, is it me or does the labor thing sound like the system that assisted in the sinking of a very popular franchise game? Without timelines i am of course guessing.

Y a i re read the archage site explanation, its the same chokepoint system Final fantasy had, though final fantasy had several things that used this system, and you see how well that worked out for them. Another money model mechanic that will kill the game before its released once folks see what its all about in relation to the rest of the game and how they expect to make......free cash. (laugh)
