@DevilSei

That requires people who's watching the TV show to play the game or else they'll miss big chunks of plot. I doubt a majority of potential viewers will actually be playing the game. If the TV series is not a completely stand-alone story they'll lose many, many viewers. That's a given.

The average MMO's population is far faaaar fewer than what's needed to support a TV series.

Because of how the two operates, it seems most likely to be that the TV series will be largely unaffected by the MMO, and the MMO will be somewhat reactive to what happens in the TV series as each episode airs. You most likely won't see any significant interactions for the vast majority of the time, just small references.

"The game -- an action-based shooter that will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 -- will be set in the San Francisco Bay Area, whereas the TV series will take place around St. Louis, Missouri. "

Oh ho...So not as strong an affect on the show as everyone thought. Players are in one city and the show is filmed in another. Only thing I can see is "radio contact" between a character on the show and yourself (or general San Fran NPC), keeping each other appraised of their situations.

So THAT is a bit of the "smoke and mirrors" explained. It's a nice bit of subterfuge, but not so ground-breaking.

Also, I like "action-based shooters" but they are mainly about shooting and less about RPG aspects; I can only see token effects on the show and possibly pre-determined paths.

Next, is the interesting 3-way release on PS3, 360, and PC. We all know Micro$oft has a history of stalling real MMOs, but not the "Call of Duty" and such. Again, sadly to say, this does not suggest to me that the game will be in-depth and only sorta tied to the TV show.

So that's like, 3-4 strikes against this already. This is not to say that the game will not be great fun, but I don't see my groundbreaking concepts here as of yet. Maybe E3 will show us something. If the game is good, I am sure I'll play but given SyFy, I can see the TV-tie in elements sucking.

As other bittermen have said how will the mmo interact once syfy cancels the show after a half of a season? Will the other cities covered on the tv side just cease to exist in the gameworld? Or maybe it'll go F2P at that point. Oh the possibilities are endless, now thats real sci-fi.

SyFy, the guys who killed Stargate Universe in favor of wrestling and cheap low fantasy? No thanks, I'll pass. That network is dead to me now.

Wonder if the series will air globally.

Eh, not having TV and living in a different country, the show/game connection is rather unappealing, though based on what's there, almost nothing in the show will actually rally have an impact on the game itself other than possibly the over arching story theme. And I see the show having a much larger affect on the game than vis versa since the shows would need to be filmed ahead of time.

Other than that, it sounds promising, but there are far too few details to know what's going on.

I find it funny that Syfy would work with great game and movie studios like Trion, Bigpoint, Universal and have great quality games and shows. At the same time continuously play movies from borderline plagiarist and all around awful studio that is The Asylum. The wonderful men and women that brought us classics as: Snakes on a Train, Transmorphers, and Mega Piranha.

For Raid bosses they should select from the SciFi Channel original movies.

Mega Snake
Mansquito
Dinocroc
Supergator

Yes. Those are all real SciFi original movies.

where are trion's screams "innovation"? The concept is just not going to happen.

Another boring shooter with stultifying grind and plenty of gear inequality tacked on to justify calling it an MMO. That's all I needed to know. Doesn't matter what television network or show it's tied to, or if it's tied to anything else at all. It will have no depth, no living world, no innovation, nothing to make it memorable or enjoyable for anyone who isn't both a power gaming gear whore and pew pew kiddie. Which means the community will also be stunningly repulsive.
