Maintenance breaks may typically be frustrating, boring patches of non-activity for MMO gamers, but next Tuesday promises to be different for Fallen Earth. According to the official site, the team has a "major" announcement scheduled during the May 31st downtime -- one you won't want to miss.
The announcement will take place during two live podcasts with Senior Game Designer Marie Croall. During the podcasts, Croall will discuss the game's present and future to the dedicated wastelanders out there.
You can catch the podcast and announcement on Fallen Earth's Ustream channel on May 31st at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. EDT. Alternatively, players may use Ventrilo to catch the action and even submit their own questions.
What will this announcement be? We're not sure, but it looks to be a long weekend wait until we find out!

I am sure everyone will suspect F2P, but really it is the inclusion of the post-apocalypse Elven race.

All aboard the F2P bandwagon?

F2P for sure.

I'd probably give this game a shot if it was F2P.

Any bets on whether they'll be announcing the game going F2P?

Evidently there are ;)

Theres really only 4 things that would be "Major"
F2P
Expansion
Server Merges (doesnt apply to FE)
and Shutting down the Game.
Only the first 2 really make sense to announce

I only hope that they don't go F2P

I would love to see it go f2p or the sub cost go down because I likes me some FE, but I don't think the game is worth the premium sub price.

For those who've played, is the game structured for a F2P transition?

I actually hope this goes f2p,or at least sees a reduction in sub cost. I like FE, I just don't think it warrants a premium sub price.

I'm sure it's F2P, they already have a cash shop with vehicles and gear in place so it won't be a huge leap. I just hope it's a better f2p than most have brought lately where you might as well just be subbed still.

@Ryukan
I hope it's just a reducion cost.
The game is fine the way it is now, but cheaper it's better for me.

Looking forward to this going free to play and picking up my mad max post-apoc up-armored Winnebago from the Item shop for 25 bucks.

Unusual that a major announcement is being made during downtime, almost inviting the assumption that it will be to the effect that the server isn't going back up again!
However, I'm sure it'll be a F2P switch, and if that increases the population and viability then I'm all for it. Whilst I'm not a fan of pure F2P in the sense of the horribly shallow Korean PK grindfests and WoW clones, I'm growing increasingly supportive of the hybrid F2P/P2P model. It seems to give the players optimum choice whilst allowing the developers the additional revenue they need short of increasing the standard subscription levels which would be difficult to achieve.
