If you've ever dreamed of a stripper pole for your captain's quarters or a monocle for your captain, CCP's latest dev blog aims to make your wildest wishes come true. And no, we're not kidding. CCP Zulu breaks the news about the forthcoming EVE Online vanity item store, which will sell a wide variety of incidentals ranging from clothing to accessories to custom ship paint jobs.
Of particular interest is the creation of a new EVE currency, Aurum, which Zulu says is acquired when you break up PLEX. "Each PLEX gives you a bunch of Aurum that you can spend in the virtual goods store. If you don't want to spend Aurum on these vanity items, you can always wait for someone else to do so and then buy it off them for ISK. [...] Items bought in the virtual goods store will be transferable between characters, just like PLEX is today," he explains.
Zulu also points out that the item shop is for vanity gear only, and you'll want to head to the official EVE Online website for all the details.

Just what I always wanted... a monocle. Ok so PLEX = roughly 370-400 ISK... How much will Aurum be worth?

Ok admit it, we all knew this day would come soon. Been joking around with my mates for months about buying glitter for my clothes with microtransactions...here it is.
And i don't care for it, just like i don't care for incarna. While most people might find that amazing, i do not. i play for explosions, lasers, internet spaceships and profit.
For me personally this brings nothing to the game, since i prefer to spend my isk on ships for pvp or officer modules, not glitter for my boots.
It's just sad that all this time has been wasted...the Incarna expansion will have you walk around your tiny room and look at your ships in the hangar. Compare that to past expansions, and tell me if it's good or not.

@Xilmar Yes, Incarna is very good because it is improving on the most lacking aspect of the game, which is player characters and customization.
You might be a straight PvP who doesn't care for stuff like this and Incarna might not interest YOU, and that's perfectly fine, but you can't say it is a bad expansion.
This will appeal to many, many players.

@(Unverified) Agreed. I actually have not gotten into the whole spaceship PvP aspect of the game yet (It's only been a month), but the possibilities that Incarna offers (example owning my own bar down the road, providing a place for backroom seedy deals, etc) is just as valid to me as kitting out a ship and going spaceship hunting.

I said it in the last EVE column and I'll say it again: if all you want to do is pew pew laz0r the shit out of that nub kid...guess what? MMOs aren't for you.
Bulletstorm is that way.
As is COD.
As is Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (the BEST game on N64, period.)
Take your pick.

i'm so sorry, didn't mean to push you into a nerd rage. don't worry, you were not a "noob". and that person was wrong for doing bad things to you.
all i said was that i'd very much rather get a ship for pvp or some modules for my missioning monster. it makes me sad to find out that your limited conclusion is that i'm only interested in pvp.
but hey, i guess that's what a true fanboy does, huh?

Well, firstly, that was far from a nerd rage, so no tears shed over that comment.
"all i said was that i'd very much rather get a ship for pvp or some modules for my missioning monster"
Actually, and bear in mind here THAT WHAT YOU YOURSELF SAID IS RIGHT THERE ON THE PAGE, was...
"i play for explosions, lasers, internet spaceships and profit."
Thus, and I mean, I'm taking a massive wild stab here, you play for combat alone; which is kind of what you, yourself said. Right there. Scroll up a bit.
Also: calling me a fanboi when your avatar is the game's logo is kinda rich. I hated EVE for 6 years before I really got into it recently. But flame on I suppose.
@Oskari
Yes. Even better than Goldeneye; Rogue Squadron was THE reason I played by N64 (well, that and Carmaggeddon.)

Sorry, i thought you were talking about: For me personally this brings nothing to the game, since i prefer to spend my isk on ships for pvp or officer modules, not glitter for my boots.
anyway, there's not much reason for me to continue this conversation since you either don't play or you have an account, but are afking in order for skills to train. czo there's no real profit in pvp, and all those 4 things are, more or less, in every part of the game. and a player knows those basic things.
but hey, i'm happy for you for "getting into it recently". friendly advice from a fellow carebear, for when you actually start playing the game, not just blabbering about it on the internetz: learn the basics, get 3 mill SP asap and then get the hell out of high sec.

To be honest, I can't even consider the last few "updates" true expansions. They didn't really offer anything new that could be considered an expansion.
I think that both PVE and PVP pilots are right when they state the game requires new content. Both areas require a lot attention.
Adding a store and station courters just doesn't seem that important. The last thing we need is pilots spending more time docked....

@(Unverified) Funny how they've got more users than ever, then.
It's going to be done through the in-game economy, so I think this is a great idea. Someone else buys PLEX with cash, splits it up into this new Monocle-currency, then puts a bunch of dodads up on the market in Jita, where I give them my in-game money for my shiny new monocle and top-hat. CCP gets more money, I don't have to SPEND more money, someone with extra money GETS more in-game money, and everyone wins.

I'm not 100% certain, but I am quite sure there were some 50k players logged on during prime time last year.
I only see about 48k max these days. Like I said, I might be wrong, but I I'm quite sure the number of active players has dropped.

450 million ISK now. PLEX prices have skyrocketed.
On a related note to this story, if anyone wants to buy a 65m SP character, let me know.
