Points for opening with a Guilty Gear reference. You are officially cool enough to not just be "the new guy".

Anyway, it's Free to Play, so I guess I'll give it a go sooner or later.

Sadly, from everything I've heard, Faxion doesn't sound like a very polished or fun game. All I've heard is comments about lag and things players wish would be changed.

Might give it a go, but personally the art style itself is a turn off to me. I feel bad being so negative, but I'll give it a go myself soon.

Faxion seemed like a good game, but for whatever reason it runs like crap on my HP DM1z, where games like Global Agenda and LotRo run quite well.

@hami83 Yeh, I've been in the betas for quite a while, and even asked them about performance when I toured their studios for an interview during GDC last year, and they seem really aware of the issues.

I think it will get cleared up soon, but they've mentioned optimization quite a bit lately. And it's not just you, trust me -- it's something in the game. Still, it has been improving over the courses of the betas, which is good news!

@Beau Hindman That's good to hear, thanks. I'll keep an eye on the game then in hopes that performance improves for my little netbook. :P

To be clear, the Faxion dev team has made big improvements since beta in terms of optimization and balance, and (so far) the server issues have been ironed out in time for launch. If the game didn't run well for you in alpha/beta, try the launch version.

Player chatter on the Faxion Facebook page has been positive lately ("Best pvp game in years!"), and the dev team actively listens and responds to its community more than most other studios. If you're into PvP and love games like Shadowbane, Faxion is definitely worth checking out. The team is led by ex-Ultima Online, Shadowbane, Wizard 101, etc. staff.

Also, woo Guilty Gear reference!

@djblewis just tried this out today , I don't know how bad it could have been in the past but my first impression was a very laggy , glitchy , stuttering mess .

I assure you I have a robust and totally capable PC and I was unable to improve performance by tweaking the various limited graphic setting options although I was able to make it perform worse :P

Yeah it's a beta yadda yadda yadda would love to test this some more when it's a bit more polished thanks.

I have to ask, what does the word faxion actually mean?

@Dumac Pronounce it, and then realize the game is about two groups fighting each other.

Disgraceful!

Came here to comemnt on the game, but poster "tooright" nailed it.
Very, very laggy, stuttering, graphically outdated, extremely limited customization options for the character and video options for the game.
The font is awfull, altho a bit better than that in Mythos (which is the worst I've seen in a while).

Will dedicate a litle more time on it and gather osme more impresions, first one though - not very pleasant.

The game is indeed one of, if not "the" most poorly coded games I've ever played. And set the new all-time record for shortest amount of time on my hard drive before deletion.

The very first time I loaded into the game as a hell character I was greeted with 5 fps. I figured it must be outdated drivers and such. So I checked and found I was up to date. Then I figured it must be some bug or error with the game's AA or shadows. So 3min later I am sitting at 800x600 resolution with every game setting at minimum. And I now have 15fps.

Now mind you this isn't with a netbook. It's a state of the art gaming desktop that runs everything at max with 40+ fps. The game itself is made by people that have no business calling themselves game developers. And I honestly wonder how they and if they ever playtested their game. As there is no way anyone can play a game at 5 fps. A ugly looking game at that.

Just avoid this game. I don't see how they could ever fix this abysmally coded game.

I've been playing continuously since the beginning of the friends and family alpha on a laptop with the following specs:

Core 2 Duo 2.16 Ghz
2GB 667MHz RAM
GeForce GO 7900 GS 256MB

Hardly what you'd call a "state of the art gaming" machine. The game has never been unplayable for me. In general, I play in windowed mode at my native resolution of 1920 X 1200 with a slightly smaller window and I average about 20FPS even with 4X AA on (perfectly playable and looks good, especially on an older machine).

Does the game need optimization? Absolutely. I've also heard rumors that it doesn't seem to play nice with ATI at the moment, but haven't seen anything official. That being said, I've never experienced performance as bad as you indicate and I've got a much older and less robust machine.

In regards to the other comments, I've been having a blast with the game since I started testing it. Yes, it needs work and I and other testers have provided a ton of feedback. Is everything we want in for launch? No. The devs for Faxion, however, are damn near unparalleled for actual communication with their tester and player base. The only other game where I've seen this much communication from not only the community manager, but most of the devs (and even QA) was Dungeon Runners.

Is the game perfect? No, but it's a hell of a lot of fun (for me, at least) and has an extremely dedicated and communicative developer team that's intent on making it the best game it can be.
