Ok so time to unsub me and my GF. I will consolidate and downgrade to free. Keep one lvl 80 toon and one slot open for the blood server.

This means no new pve content just cash shop dev's left.
Oh well now I have time to do another playthough in Witcher 2.

You missed the announcement about the new area(s) that are coming out to coincide with the release of the Conan movie.

This system can be salvaged by adding a simple feature from EVE Online: Put a tradeable consumable item in the cash shop for $15 that when used grants one month of subscription time. They should be sellable in the bazaar, auction house, or whatever else AoC has for an in-game marketplace. That way F2P players can earn their subscription for free (with effort), Funcom still makes money on them, and players who want to buy in-game money have a legitimate way to do so. Everyone wins!

It works great for CCP.

Straight from the FAQ page..

If you go to the I had previously canceled my subscription, but I'm interested in playing for free. Will I have the same access to the game as I did previously?

Accounts that were previously active are still there, but you will be limited to two character slots, and the other restrictions on free play unless you become a Premium subscriber.

So basically if you previously owned the game and cancelled..you are screwed just as a person who never bought the game and never subscribed...Ughhhh.....

How would that be different from Lord of the Ring Online premium accounts?

You bought the box for $50 during release and stopped playing. When the game goes free-to-play, you become a premium account. Someone else opens a free account, spends $1 in the cash shop and also becomes a premium account.

By your logic, is the guy who bought the $50 box also screwed?

@Jade Effect

Actually, having bought a box copy of LotRO means that all of your characters played when you were a subscriber have all traits slots unlocked, 5 inventory bags, swift travel routes open, gold cap removed, riding skill, whatever crafting guild access they had already achieved, etc. If you have multiple characters, the total value of these unlocks from the cash shop quite possibly exceeds $50. There were many further benefits to owners of the Mines of Moria expansion. When it went F2P, Turbine took good care of its existing and former customers.

Please people, stop QQing. Many details have obviously not been released about the hybrid pay plan. Also, to those complaining that they don't get anything for coming back to an inactive account.... you couldn't have played it anyway if the game wasn't F2P. At least now your account is active and you can play the free content with some limitations. From the looks of it, the whole game may be purchaseable through the store as well, besides sieges which don't work anyway. If this is the case, that might be a good deal in the long run, just like LotRO. I just can't wait for the large influx of noobs who get to experience this wonderful game. I think they'll be in awe of the care and detail that went into this game. Also, Atzel's and 2 raids are free which is pretty badass. This is a LOT of free content.

@Fabius Bile

Indeed, but ill feed your troll... When someone goes out and spends 50$+ on the game and is a loyal prior customer and or subscriber..it is a kick in the face. Plain and simple. All this is just a free trial that has been expanded. As for further details about the hybrid plan..The FAQ is right there for everyone to read and see, just how crap tastic it is.

That 50 bucks was for the right to pay $15 per month to play the game. That's all. Get over it.

Yea, that was the original agreement. You buy the box and after 30 days you pony up $15 to continue playing. Now the free 30 days is over, so it is still time to pony up if you want to have access to all the content.

Doggone! nothing has really changed. You still have to pay to play , in the fullest sense.

My review of aoc.

Qualifications lvl 70 ranger in less than 2 weeks.

Combat system
Combo on a rail - no freeform here. About all you can do is execute either a preprogrammed combo LOOKING attack or a set combo attack. Set combo = specific keys must be pressed or the combo fizzles, no chance to enter a different combo once started.

The combat is, plant your feet and deal with long durations between attacks. Use crowd control effects to pin players/mobs in place. The only thing that can attack while moving is something waving a sword. And even then they have to plant a little bit. No fast paced action here. It really doesn't matter what class or path you pick, while soloing, yer gonnah be the tank. Enemies with way too many hp and way to low damage will be the norm.

Stealth aspect is pretty subpar. No matter how well you have your hiding trained, you're going to get spotted quite quickly except for certain times of day you may be able to slip past enemies well below what would pose any combat challenge to you anyway.

Customer service
Customer service will answer the first question they want to answer regardless of whether or not it was even a question you asked and abruptly close the session in your face. Honestly though, this is pretty common among games.

Payment options, recently most banks have taken a stand against fraudulent charges originating overseas. Mostly due to commonly used online payment option companies such as PayPal etc losing or selling all of your personal data. Funcom is a Norwegian company. While the bulk of the fraud is coming from the UK, Norway is still firmly on the blacklist. You’ll have to pay with time cards from best buy. Major, major, hassle. Customer service was pretty displeased when it was suggested that they should do business with more secure companies such as Google checkout.

Documentation and guides
Aoc guides and loot tables are ridiculously limited. The few players they have left, really couldn't care less than to build any sort of databases.

The player base has almost completely died out on a number of servers. So bad was it that they had to combine servers just to have enough people to happen along and find someone at random. If you weren’t specifically looking for anyone, you surly would not see anyone. And even if you were looking for someone, only one class can track that someone down. On the bright side... that one class really can't do anything to them once they found them anyway.

Graphics
They are okay but still do not compare with other more enjoyable and true free to play games out there. There are nipples and completely naked succubae and it is extremely refreshing to be out of the crib, so to speak. it's honestly the only selling point: murder, nudity, fatality animation sequences and bonuses for them that can really change the tide of a skirmish, outright criminality of every sort stopping only just short of pedoviolence(full grown women and men are equally fair game), all the children live.

Parental control type oversight by game operators.
No.

Oversight of cheating and or hacking
nah.

My advice
Hit the free pron site for a minute and then go back to whatever else you were doing. stop before you try to beat the hacker that's been paying for his subscription with money he's gotten by selling duplicated gold to the people who're trying to beat him.

Love the game so far.

For the longest time I wasn't sure if I wanted to play, but Funcom has made so many improvements since the launch 3 years ago, and now its f2p, I just couldn't resist.
