I have to ask this question because I really don't know the answer, what's an appearance slot?

@Poordevil

It's a cosmetic option that allows you to wear good armor but skin it with something that looks better. Some of AoC's armor is butt ugly, or aesthetically mismatched or whatever, but the stats are great so people wear it despite it being a fashion nightmare.

Appearance slots allow you to kick ass and look good doing it.

@Jef Reahard

I used to do something like that in Tortage. There were early items like the cloth sash and certain cloth boots I liked the look of, so I would equip them in town but switch to better armor out questing. I liked the look of cloth armor rather than the hard leather belt and boots.

Are you kidding me??

Aside from the mention of the appearance slots that was a fluff piece!

The questions were flaccid and Craig basically said nothing we didn't already know or have known for some time.

So, my question is... what was the point of it?

You have the game director of one of the most controversial MMO's out there and you give us a fluff piece??

This game is limping along on 4 low US population servers. I'd like a state of the game. I'd like to know if there are server merges on the way. I'd like to know if there is another major release on the way. I'd like to know if there is actually going to be some T4.

@Nautius

Hey, send me your questions if you think you can do better, lol, I'll be happy to ask him in the next interview.

I can probably save you the trouble based on your last paragraph though. The answers would be something like 'the game's great," "no comment," "check back next week," and "no comment."

@Nautius Been playing since Early Access and getting any good info from AoC has always been hard to come by. The fluff appearance slots is something that has been needed for a long while, all of us in raid gear look the damn same. Sure its nothing major but its welcome. Hopefully next week when this announcement hits we will hear of the new areas to coincide with the release of the movie.

Always baffled when I hear US players saying the game is dying, EU server Crom is always busy with lots of pugs and guilds having fun. Development has moved at a snails pace but for me its still the best mmo out there

@Nautius I think the fact you know a lot of the status alrady speaks volume for how much we keep you all update with the weekly community updates, the monthly dev team letter, and interviews like this. Yes, for those who follow along closely there aren't always that many surprises because we have answered a lot of those questions to the community before.

We pretty much give a 'state of the game' at the end of each month :) Last months contained a lot of the current schedule, minus the stuff we are about to announce...

Yes, right now there are some big announcements that are coming next week that means my answer to some of those will be 'stay tuned next week!' because, as we have already hinted at in the updates, there is major news coming next week!

All three of the specific questions you asked there, will be answered pretty clearly next week :) ...and yes, Jef has already asked more probing questions ready for those announcements so you'll see more there too :) Jef and the guys at Massively do a great job with their questions and I never feel like they are throwing me softballs or adding fluff. I like commentators like Jef, even if I don't always agree with them, because they speak their mind and comment on the game as they see it...can't ask for more than that :)

@Nautius T4 is already in the game as apart of the rise of the godslayer expansion, Jade Citadel. Also, the unknown announcement is suppose to be released next week from what I have read.

You mean the unfinished, broken T4? Yes, you're correct, it is ingame right now.

"The general player mood in game and on the forums seems to be much improved in recent weeks. People are digging the updates and looking forward to the future.

Can you put your finger on some of the reasons for this shift?"

I think something that cannot be ignored is the fact that alot of the people who bought the long term sub package that included the xpac a while ago but were not happy with either the xpac or the development since then ( PvP related especially ) have recently lost the ability to post in the forums.

Right or wrong, alot of those people were not pleased with the game but still had long term subscriptions so they were vocal on the forums hoping to salvage some of the sub fee by getting suggestions implemented ( or just complaining ). I think this absence would explain a large part of the more positive feel in the official forums recently.

Logged back in last night to take advantage of the free anniversary time (thanks Funcom!) I have a lvl 80 that was moved to Tyranny. Unfortunately, the server was pretty dead, and I had nothing to do solo since I can't use AA or earn faction rep without the expansion pack. So I figured I would grind some PvP experience. Couldn't find anyone in open world so I queued for a mini-game. Waited for a long time but there was never enough people for a game. I then used my instant lvl 50 option to roll a character on Wiccanna and tried again in the middle of the day. Queued for a mini-game, nothing. Waited, and waited...only 4 people in the queue. I finally gave up an logged off.

I still look back fondly on the time I spent in AoC when the population was high and there was PvP around every corner. I really hope this game goes F2P or does something to get the population boost it so badly needs. Grats to the people in the EU that don't seem to have this problem. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to play a PvP game with high latency, otherwise I'd just join there.

So Jeff...you recently wrote an article about the Rift community...why didn't you bring up that article? I'd like to hear CM speak about the community and what can be done to improve it.

@Checksix

Asking about community didn't occur to me tbh. I was more interested in game mechanics and fluff. I'm not sure there would be any good answers forthcoming about community anyhow.

AoC's community is what it is at this point, and Funcom's not liable to do anything about it since that would affect the bottom line. Imo, the best they can do is make a great game and spread the word.

Keeping the AA system exclusive to the expansion was a bad idea. How is someone with out the expac supposed to compete? If you want to bring in new players and have them feel competitive, you are expecting them to buy both. Most new people will only buy the base game to get a feel for it, which they wont get any AA's. In pvp, the AA is a huge factor, going up against someone with out AA, and not being competitive, will most likely discourage them from being a repeat customer. Give AA's to everyone and help level the playing field

After hearing about the free gametime on accounts, I talked to live support to get my account back. They requested the cdkey and I didn't have it because I didn't keep it from three years ago and I also never thought I'd be coming back. They then requested the most recently used credit card number on the account and I obviously couldn't give that because it was the thief's credit card number that was used most recently. I offered to give them some ID, my full name, the original email and credit card used to make the account and they refused to do anything because it was against company policy. It's too bad because I'm obviously the original owner and would have subbed again. The way they do things for account recovery just doesn't make sense and it's funny because I'm not surprised as I've always known them to be FAILcom.
