Stereotypical elves. I mean elves ripped straight out of D&D (even WoW's elves have some variations from the norm). Tolkien and actual D&D elves don't really bother me (more tolerance for "originals" I guess?) but my first impression of the elves in the Warhammer MMO was a stereotypical "haughty high elves vs. haughty elf exiles" dynamic and none of the questing I did on my elf characters (that I admittedly didn't level past 10) convinced me otherwise.

In contrast, I absolutely love unique or rarely-used depictions of elves. The sylvari of GW2 are a perfect example of this (or at least what little we know of them from the site and novels is, and makes me optimistic that the race as a whole will be very interesting), especially turning one of the huge elven stereotypes on its head by making them the "newborn" race of Tyria rather than one reaching back into the depths of prehistory.

To be honest, I don't tire of any races, really. If there was anything I'd like to see, I guess I'd like to see the bad guys win every once in a while.

To be honest, for me it's not races so much as I'd just like to see the bad guys win now and again, or play as the bad guys fighting against the stereotypical forces of good.

Other than that, I'm pretty much a fan of the genre, so nothing really bothers me.

Elves and dwarves. I mean, seriously, can't you come up with another race? An example that comes to mind is Darkfall. They're made by a Greek company. Greece! They're, yanno, kinda known for their mythology. Couldn't they have pulled from the Greek myths for their creatures? But no, it was all elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, and hobgoblins.

It won't necessarily stop me from trying out a game, but it is a small mark against whether I'll subscribe.

The whole class restriction thing bothers me. How is it that a Wizard can't use a sword? It has a handle, you point the sharp end at something and stab. How can he not use it? Same thing with armor.
Also Giant Spiders. I am so sick of giant spiders.

I also despise class-based systems. Give me skills! Give me freedom!

@(Unverified) Often they can (I see more and more spellcasting type swords in MMOs lately) but it`s fair that they won`t be as proficient with a sword as a warrior. A warrior, even at level 1, has presumambly spent years and years in martial training, time that a wizard would have spent studying magic.

Sure anyone can point a sword at somebody and cut them, but that doesn`t really qualify as "using" a sword anymore than making noise on a violin is "playing" a violin. It`s reasonable enough to just make it unusable to the spellcaster to represent this.

Fireballs. Because gosh forbid there could be a world where high-powered magic manifests in some form other than a convenient ball of burning destruction.

Honestly, any storyline that uses the Joseph Campbell "monomyth" theory bores me.

Agree!
All these games that use Hooker-chic "style"... Pathetic!

@(Unverified) It's an actual word and it's being used properly in this context so I'm not sure how it's a "buzzword."

All of them. The whole Tolkien-ripoff multiple sentient races plus wizards in a medieval European setting thing has been done to death, and there is nothing even minimally interesting left to do with it. MOVE ON.

Weapons. Cant they come up with something other than just swords, axes, maces and wands. Tera is a good start with the lance but I would like to see some imagination in a weapon choice, e.g. for melee a scythe, flail/morning star or for ranged a sling shot/catapult, javelin etc.

Good vs Evil. Light vs Dark. Any two factions versus each other.

Let's have some three corner fights or messy factional feuding.

Pastoral landscapes and evil lords of darkity dark are also over done, if nice to look at and make good screenshots or poster art.
