As an MMO design tool, Second Life sucks badly. It's slow to load, response is all over the map, and the scripting tools are fifty kinds of wonky.

But if you just want to hang out and make stuff, it's the best there is.

Thanks for coming by our show, Beau! The Odd Ball is usually 7-9pm on Wednesday and 11am-1pm Sunday (Pacific Time), but we put on shows during the week too when a wild hare takes us.

You forgot to mention two things:

1. Renting still requires real money.

2. If you're really against spending real money there's an OS version similar in nature to active worlds. Instead of buying your own sim, you can make an entire grid!.

One of these days I'd like to see an article on the fan communities in SL. I mean they range form Power Rangers to even My Little Pony! (A more recent addition most likely.)

Just avoid the sonic ones. From what I have heard they're way too expantion-istic and some of the higher ups are unlikeable. (In fact a smash bros sim recently converted to a sonic sim. THE IRONY!)
