Ahh, MxO. I've never had as much fun PvP'ing in any other game as I had there. I miss Hyperjump.

The picture on top (of the player logging in) gave me warm fuzzy feelings. I have a stalker type love and a troll type hate for this game but its my only real go at mmo's and loved the IP, the community and the failed attempts at RP in game.

Rest in peach MXO

@Tempes Magus

Same here, I was too busy in CoH and never got the chance to play it.

Sooo many regrets now, the whole idea of it was amazing and if they ever brought it back, or another game company took it on, I would 100% play it.

I always thought this game had tremendous potential, it was just the technical problems that really kept that from flowering. Sad...

Just when I had to money to actually be able to play the game faithfully, it was over. I was greeted to a letter stating that it had shutdown. It's horrible. I loved the Matrix franchise and wanted to try this out. It's really sad when the good ones leave so fast. If I had the money, I'd reboot it, but sadly, I don't.

MxO was the first MMO I seriously got into. I loved the universe, even if the sequels were bad. Plus, the capacity for RP was incredible.

I really do miss it sometimes.

No matter how many times I tried to get into MXO, I always felt like I was missing something about how the combat worked.

I was really excited about the game and always wanted to play it but never got the chance.

As far as the movies yeah it was pretty sad seeing it go downhill after part 1. All entertaining but to me they only made sequels for the money, it was pretty ridiculous.
Incredible idea and they killed it.

I found Matrix Online's gameplay pretty boring and tedious, but it still featured my favorite MMO world of all time.

It was the first urban MMO world done right. It felt like a real city. Each neighborhood had its own reason for existing. There were housing projects, red light districts, factories, slums, warehouse areas, docks. Everything.

In comparison, the world in City of Heroes is a disappointment. The shops repeat every two blocks. I think I saw 90 "El Super Mexicano" stores before I quit out of boredom.

@Tempes Magus

Same for me. As the article stated, MxO was a few years too late. The IP was worth nothing considering the failure of the two sequel movies and new action MMOs, such as CoH, were just coming onto the market. Also, CoH fit the perfect action MMO mold at the time and is something that I played for a few years. I generally only play one MMO at a time, so I never tried MxO even though it seemed like a cool concept.

I played this game 2005-2006... still the most fun I've ever had in PvP : ) I have great memories large fights with people representing 3 factions going at it for hours.

This game was really linear in terms of pve content (and also lacking) but it had a revolutionary melee combat mechanic called "Interlock" for MMOs which was an absolute blast. The new NCSoft korean MMO in development Blade and Soul has a kung fu master class that is very similar (albeit without the interlock, but instead does have reactive chain skills). I'm hoping it'll bring back some fun MxO memories.

Ah, my first mmo I ever played. I really do miss it sometimes and really thought it would have been great but I guess that is just how it goes sometimes. Just glad I spent a few years playing it before soe shut it down.

I still adore MxO and miss it terribly. :( If they could have overcome the mission structure, it would have been amazing.

Is that second screenie a shot of the Furious Angels?

Honestly, only the first Matrix game sucked, I rather loved playing Path of Neo on the PS2.
This was one of those MMOs I had been dying to play, but didn't have the computer or internet to play it... I eventually ended up on WoW thanks to a friend, but by the time we got around to a good internet, I kind of forgot about the game... it never really popped up anywhere online, never knew anyone in real life or in forums that played it...

And sadly, when it did pop back into the limelight, it was to announce that the MMO was being shut down... I'm still dying to play it, but I guess its just my luck that I haven't really found any private servers that might be running for the game still...

It had its place. The 3rd movie ruined the franchise for me over all so I never really got into the game as much I think because of that.

The combat animations made it for for a while. The game felt very monotonous to me after a couple hours of game play.

There were themed elements that I really enjoyed from the IP that made the game more than it otherwise would have been. It must have done really poorly to have been shutdown by SOE.

The first mistake they made was not letting people dress how they wanted. Granted in the MMO genre its a given you'll start out looking like a goober and work your way towards cool looking gear, but that dynamic was completely antithetical to the Matrix IP. Logging in for the first time, finding yourself choosing a yellow trench coat and purple hat because it gave the best stats, you lost the feel for the Matrix right away. They should have made all clothing choices available from the start and made stat/skill bonuses bits of code you added on. Besides that it was easily the most RP geared and friendly MMO there was. Too bad it wasn't supported.

@Tempes Magus I remember Auto Assault. I loved that game, it wound up going down the crapper due to bad marketing and low interest....

It was really unique in just about every way.

I'll never forget how much fun I had in that game. I rememberthe day I first saw someone get punted. It was so random I couldn't stop laughing. Oh MxO I miss you. I remember in the early days there was talk of adding vehicles and unlocking the other parts of the city. Oh there were grand plans.

My stay in MxO was short but I still have some good memories from it. Some of the most entertaining combat animations in any mmo I have played. I'm pretty sure this game was also my first beta experience.

Oh and for the record I enjoyed all 3 of the movies. I thought the animatrix shorts were really cool too.
