"Yes, I mean both of you."

Trolling for article hits, are we? Okay, I'll bite.

I'm beginning to become convinced that Massively is going the MMORPG.Com route and being purposely provocative/controversial merely to stir up web hits.

Yes, many people dislike STO. Many people do like it, however, and the game is constantly, noticeably improving.

More to the point, perhaps, I'm insomniac, and I often play at the weirdest hours (say, Tuesday at 4 a.m. ET) and there are /always/ player ships coming and going. regardless of day or time.

It's no World of WarCraft, but it hardly seems the dead or dying game, either some would wish it were.

If nothing else, STO remains the /only/ high-profile MMORPG which offers story-based space-and-planet exploration missions as a central part of gameplay.

This alone will guarantee its niche market, I expect, because EVE doesn't offer such things, and Star Wars: The Old Republic won't be focusing on this sort of gameplay either.

There. Tell your editor you got an article hit by dissing the game to those who enjoy it.

I look at MMORPG.Com every day, don't recall seeing any particular slant toward controversy. Any particular slants at all really, even when they should be more negative about utterly deeply, broken excuses for games (I won't mention particular one I'm thinking of, no need to open up that can-of-worms).

I'm pretty sure it was ment as a joke, its actually a fairly common joke, but I guess some people have no sense of humor.

As I read it, and it made me chuckle, it in no way seemed controversial.

@mysecretid Trolling the author's are we?

It was a harmless little joke, you should be grateful because this is one of the last MMO sites that actually still do talk about Cryptic weekly, while the rest of the news sites and blogs have pretty much written them off. I mean seriously, not only does this site report on STO news when it happens, they also have a weekly column dedicated to both STO and CO.

Well, I guess the "two of you" would be Myseceretid and me. Well researched and thought out criticisms I believe are welcome by the crowd that frequents Massively. Cheapshots...not so much. It was probably just meant in fun, which is ok if it was.

As a new member of the staff I love so much, I welcome you and think you have done great so far.

STO has come a long way from launch. I remember saying lets wait and a year down the road this will be a way better game, and here we are, and it is a much better game. Everybody likes to bash a game company when they mess up, but few are willing to come forward when they actually deliver on a fix. We must acknowledge when companies step up and address concerns.

tried, but couldnt stick with this for more than 14 days...

nice for people that can manage to last 500 days with this game. i know i cant, too damn repetitive and the world feels extremely claustrophobic.

@ Matt Daniel (original author)

I was out of line with my comments, and I apologize unreservedly.

I was seeing in your casual humor an intentional slight where (obviously) no such thing was intended.

I may be an idiot semi-regularly on the internet, but my Pops taught me that a true man owns his mistakes when he realizes them. So, I'm owning this one.

I'll try not to post when cranky in the future.

Again, apologies to you, Matt.

@mysecretid et al.

No worries, you lot. :P It was a cheap shot, I admit, but I assure you it was all in good fun. I personally stand with wookiehole in that I couldn't make it past the 14-day mark. But as Ryn, Discord and CCon pointed out, it was not intended as a slight toward the game. Just a little bit of good-natured ribbing, is all.

And thanks for the well-wishing, all of you. It's very much appreciated. Warms my little heart. ;P

@(Unverified) Also, that comment above is in fact the author of this post, but for some reason Massively's comment system hates me. Just take my word for it this once. :x

Matt -- as someone who obviously plays STO, I can tell you that it has changed noticeably since launch.

I'm not suggesting that you, or anyone else who dislikes the game, will magically like it now -- only that it /has/ come a very long way since release day.

It's certainly going forward. Whether it's going forward in a direction you would enjoy is entirely your call to make.

re: "all two of you".

Considering anyone who purchased a lifetime subscription at launch would quality - it is more likely that the number of player who qualify for the reward are in the many thousands, so at least it is a nice reward.

Now the real question is - how many of them are still playing...

I know I am playing Trek simply because I got sick of the power trips that were going on over in WOW. And Trek fits more with my style of play, anyhow. Meaning I don't have to team up with people unless I choose to. The 800 pound gorilla that is Blizzard basically forces people to raid without actually coming out and doing it themselves. And now that I have experienced the abuse of their GMs, I will be staying with Trek for a long time.

The new title is actually "Players that are simplistic and easy to please"

Now excuse me, i have to run, again, apologies! (Evil grin)

I can't wait for the combat revamp in Season 4. I have about 40 days before I hit the 500 day Vet Rewards.

Woo, 463 days here. Reckon I'll spend the next 37 in the Foundry though - it's a proper pant-wetter for an old Trekker like me. :)

I think the title "the masochist" would have been more appropriate.
