Speculation and excitement are the order of the day on both the European and American forums for Age of Conan. What's all the hubbub about? Two new lands are purportedly in the works, and this jibes with a cryptic comment by Funcom game director Craig "Silirrion" Morrison in last month's development update.
"This is where we get to the stuff we can't quite talk about just yet... yes, a little teasing I know, but trust us, it is far more frustrating not being able to talk about what is coming just yet. These will be important updates, with two new and important elements incoming," Morrison wrote.
Fans are speculating that the two new and important elements are in fact two Hyborian provinces filled with a multitude of new zones, specifically Turan and Ardashir. Massively has confirmed that bringing up the in-game player search tab and filtering by region shows two new headings labeled Turan and Ardashir alongside the pre-existing countries of Aquilonia, Cimmeria, Stygia, and Khitai. There is also a bit of conjecture on the official boards regarding Funcom's annual report, which says in part that 2011 will bring "significant content and story tie-ins with the [new Conan] movie." We'll keep you updated as this story develops and as we get official word from the devs.
[Thanks to Nyan for the tip!]

Keeping my eye on these developments. The reason I left AoC last year was because of the faction grind (I had left WoW in favor of AoC to escape token-grinding...), and with the recent changes I'm eager to return. Unfortunately it seems like the RP-PvP population on Cimmeria has all but vanished, with the few remaining looking to head to the new Blood and Glory ruleset.

Probably a very wise idea to tie in with the upcoming movie. The game needs a bit of advertising and what better way than to go along side a big blockbuster movie. Also, people LOVE, including me, new land to explore that isn't part of an expansion pack.
Looking at you Turbine, you did it before, now don't stop. I digress, anyway I still wonder if this game can grow any more population though. It just seems to lack something when I log on. I can't quite put my finger on it. It might be something as simple as the UI or it might be something in the combat mechanics or the fact that the world feels small due to all zones being instanced, I don't know. Thoughts?

"It might be something as simple as the UI"
That right there is the #1 reason why I can't get into AoC. I've tried several times, and have even used some of the custom UI skins others have made, but the mechanics behind it all just plain suck. And this may sound stupid, but not being able to darken the BG of the chat box is a huge turn-off for me...I just can't read the text and enjoy the game otherwise!

Actually you *can* darken the BG of the chatbox. There are slider bars in the options menu somewhere (Interface page). I can't remember where exactly, but one slider is for when you're typing in the box, and one for when you're not, or something that amounts to that. ;) You can set it to fully opaque, I'm pretty sure.

Well Khitai was a fail IMHO. Lets see if they can bring anything else apart from senseless faction grind.

Grindy or not Khitai was a masterpiece from the art side :)

@Nyan Indeed it is. The grind factor has been cut half. (yes!!!) I made 20 Mark of Acclaims last night running faction quests. Last night I made rank two for Shadows of Jade and I am already half way through to Rank 3.The Wicanna server actually had 2 instances for grasslands. And the Golem raids is still very effective. Now I just need 25 more gold for my eastern riding skill. They do need to change the cost.
