I guess they didn't want to mention the Tome of Knowledge lest they remind people of WAR.

@Taawa

Except the Codex dates back to ME1, which both predates Warhammer and also calls it a Codex. Geez, you're worse than the people who think WoW invented the MMO basics that we've been playing since the 90s.

I'm glad this is in, I love the systems in ME and DA. I just hope they don't put any hard to find ones in missions you can only do once. I hope they are all in areas you can return to anytime. I remember how frustrating it was missing a Lothering update in DA:O

I have to wonder seriously how concerned Blizzard is with TOR. It's not going to effect D3 or SC II in the slightest...but it has the potential to steal the very large and apparently very disgruntled non raider player base that WoW currently has.

I mean

Four player instances and flashpoints (which is like 95 % of the elder game) which each player can bring one NPC companions.

Being able to craft while questing or even offline

A full VO story and just kill ten rats

A PVP game that doesn't appear to be an afterthought.

And every week we see something else that is just awesome.

I'm not saying WoW killer or anything like that but it looks like this might be the next big thing.

@Dunraven

And us raiders who are just not impressed with the current content and the constant rehashing of content like dungeons is annoying. Re-running ZG and ZA also is a snorefest.

@Dunraven Is this WoW versus ToR?

I have no doubt that ToR will cut into the market, but I cannot see it exploiting anything new. By the time ToR has paid its design costs, Titan is likely to be the up-and-coming game.

I think ToR is about four years too late with this. I'm not saying that the MMO will be a dud like Age of Conan, but I think too much is stacked against the pure-narrative MMO at this point.

My hopes for the future of MMOs are limited to Titan and some of the action-based stuff coming out of Korea.

Well, this seems to suit this Explorer just fine. I always like to explore the maps and even figure how to get to certain places. :)

As successful and effective as the systems from ME and DA are, I really wish they weren't just directly copying them into TOR. It feels cheap.

This isn't really exciting news either. Collecting isn't my thing. Collecting in the name of lore and context really isn't my thing. TOR has been slipping a lot for me personally in the last few months. This isn't helping. Its very likely I'm going to be passing on this.

@Apakal I get angry when the developers include optional information for me to look up too.

I prefer being uninformed to the in-game lore.

Yes, I am serious and yes, I most definitely will, along with the rest of the game. Sure its great to have extra features, but its not much if its just a recycled element from another game in the companies catalog.

It doesn't have anything to do with information. I don't care about lore. I do care about a unique experience, which it appears TOR is going to fail to deliver.

And this isn't the first instance of this, which is where my concern lays. I expected TOR to be a different game. Very little recently released information leads me to believe this is going to be any different from WoW or Rift. Sorry, I'll pass on that.

This update was another great one, IMO.

I'd ask you guys to please go give some love to the guys at SWTOR.com about this and the other updates we get, as they are constantly bombarded with so much whining and complaining that it's getting to the point of being sickening to me.

Seriously though those guys really are trying to stay in touch with the community and they nothing but flak for it. God I hate the inter-webs sometimes. Hehe.

Where did the Jeff Hickman article go??? Was it replaced by this when Bioware contacted Massively and started spinning the propaganda machine because of the negative feedback?

What Jeff Hickman article? Maybe give some context to what you're saying instead of just spewing nonsense.

I liked WARs Tome of Knowledge a lot.

However I read almost nothing in the ME1/Dragon Age Codexs that I didn't need to finish a quest.

I LOVED the codex in ME, giving it so much depth.
Same for WAR's knowledge tome and achievements and all.
I'm glad this is in, and I hope it will vary between text/voice and clips.
If it's similar to the holocron currently online I'll be a bit disappointed.
The holocron seems a bit uninspired to me, while ME's codex was full of surprises...
