Is it just me or does this seem kinda contradictory. I mean Champions already has the action thing down pat. And there treating this game like its a whole new thing.

@Tweakalvos Chronicles of Spellborn already had the entire TERA battle-system (aiming for attacks, free dodging, though no blocking that I can recall). So no, it's certainly not new to the MMO world.

Damn...I miss Spellborn.

@Vagrant Zero I played Chronicles of Spellborn and it plays nothing like Tera or any action MMOs like vindictus. The battle pace was about the same as WoW and each attack consist of using attacks from a rolling bar.

You can barely avoid attacks too since the enemies are about as fast or faster than you. No dodge mechanics like vindictus.

I have to do more research, but I feel like I've also heard this speech before.

The one thing I can confirm about TERA after looking briefly at website is that the heroine in the box art doesn't ever have to worry about drowning ...

She's also not in any danger of having armor that won't be mistaken for trashy lingerie or thong swimwear.

I'd say TERA players are in danger of a visit from Chris Hansen due to the Elin, though.

How about MMOAC instead?
There is very little RPG in todays MMOs, and so far this one was/is all about combat and how "revolutionary" it is.

I haven't had opportunity to try Champions (I'm not into the superhero genre). Can anyone offer a short compare-and-contrast of noteworthy differences in the combat systems?

I hope for more iterations of the action-combat MMO. I wish to hasten the day when 'cover' doesn't mean 'stationary stance with a special action bar and damage reduction'.

I REALLY hope for the day when click targeting is gone for good.

Of course, there's also the political system. That seems new-ish (or at least a rehash from the distant past).

@Borick

I can tell you (As I have 2 lvl 50s in K-Tera) that Tera's combat system does not use click targeting or tab targeting. The only time the cursor appears is when you hit escape to bring it up to move inventory items or change settings.

The basic combat of Tera's controls is left mouse click as basic attack (no auto attack unless you hold down left click) and right click can be used as a learned skill or a dodge/block ability.

Moving the mouse also moves your camera and the aiming reticle (for casters) or a fine crosshair for melee characters. You can aim up to the sky to down in the ground if you wish.

Most attacks by mobs can be blocked or dodged based on your timing and the type of attack. Some mobs have a lock on cast but very few. Your ability to dodge and keep moving plays a key role in Tera's combat.

I heard this game has invisible walls everywhere. Can anyone confirm that?

Invisible walls = the beginning of the end for me.

Yes, the Korean version has invisible walls and a few collision detection problems with the landscape. Most are in hard to reach areas. En Masse is aware of such problems and will hopefully have most fixed before US release. You can read about it here with En Masse's response. http://www.tera-online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17909&page=2

PSO is still one of my favorite MMOGs that featured a manual or action combat system.
Although there was solf-locking in that, I am interested in seeing how Tera actually works because I terribly miss my memorable PSO days.

Chronicles of Spellborne did this type of combat, it was too hard for the mass macro crowd as you could not write macros and they left, back to wow.

Tera does have more advertising, Spellborne had none. Will be interesting to see how they fair when the masses of WOW crowds and Rifties try it. Myself, not interested, still grinding my 30 points in the microtransaction title guildwars, more than alot of stuff to do here, now excuse me, Jora wants to see me....

@Graill440 Tera plays like a real Action game. Spellborn does not. I played Chronicles of Spellborn and it plays nothing like Tera or any action MMOs like vindictus. The battle pace was about the same as WoW and each attack consist of using attacks from a rolling bar.
