EA's financial results report was released to the public today, and alongside the various bits of fiscal information is one important tidbit for fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic. On page 17 of the document, we find "The Packaged Goods title release schedule excludes Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is expected to launch in either Q2 FY12 or Q3 FY12," where Q2 FY12 and Q3 FY12 correspond to July through September and October through December, respectively, of this year.
This is obviously excellent news for those who are anticipating The Old Republic's release, and it's aptly timed to boot, coming to light on Intergalactic Star Wars Day. Given that the last piece of information we heard regarding The Old Republic's launch was back in March, we're heartened to see that EA is still holding strong for a 2011 release. If you're the sort of person who likes numbers and financial information for some unholy reason, the document in its entirety is available for your perusal.
Fan site Darth Hater has parsed the earnings call itself, noting that EA has also confirmed that SWTOR will be launched as a "Digital Service" under a subscription model.

I'll get it in before someone else.
Great, one of the bigger titles is going to be released just as the world ends. (Chuckle)

@Graill440 I'm going to assume you picked out the numbers out of this article and didn't even read one single word which would be obvious since you only posted your response 3 minutes after the article was submitted.
In the same sentence: where Q2 FY12 and Q3 FY12 correspond to July through September and October through December, respectively, of _this_ year.

@Graill440 The joke has no merit to begin with since that would mean the world would end in 2011 or swtor would release in 2012. None of this is true, swtor is set to be released at least a year before the world ends (in your joke) and therefore the "just as" statement doesn't qualify.

World ending in 2012 is from the Mayan calender - Dec 21st 2012 is the last day. Their calender only goes up to that day, so some say it prophesizes the end of the world. That the 21st is the winter solstice and their New Year and the calender would probably continue if their civilization hadn't died out 1000 year ago is just a side thought.
In real archaeology the sync between our calender and the Mayans is just a guess agreed between two early Mayan archaeologists with a plus or minus 50 year error margin, so the calender ends somewhere between 1962 and 2062.

So fiscal years are marked as a year late? FY12 is actually 2011? Seems odd.

I've been reading alot of info on this game's release date and people have trouble with what "fiscal year" means.
Simply the "fiscal year" BEGINS in April of one year and ends March of the next. Partly for tax reasons this is how corporations divide their year. Jan. 1 for instance is meaningless for companies, April 1 is more applicable to corporate "new year".
So when a company states FY12, they mean April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012. So FY12 Q1 is the first quarter (3 months) of their fiscal year, being April - June.
SWTOR is projected to be released in Q2 or Q3. They specifically stated in the conference call, which I heard, that the game is expected during Q2 BUT MAY SLIP INTO Q3.
That statement leads me to believe that they will release near the END of Q2 (Sept. 2011), but if there's any small setbacks it may SLIP into Q3 (Oct.).
That's pretty solid intel there. Late Q2, early Q3.

No not really. I should have been clearer in saying EA's Fiscal year ends in March and starts in April. Fiscal year determination is strictly a company decision and is in no way a set standard. Although alot of companies follow this particular formula.
The tax thing is just throwing you. Forget that. I was just trying to clarify to people what FY12 is. It's not 2012! It's from parts of 2011 into 2012.
That's it. Hope that helps some people.

Interesting, this is gonna be a big year for Bioware as well for the MMO world, and I'm interested to see how this game turns out

This isn't confirmed, this is about as much information as we had after the first conference call. At that one it was April - December. Now it's simply July - December, in fact they said they are even throwing January in there in case everything goes wrong.

Lol, what? Why was this voted down? I'm simply saying that if you asked me yesterday when the game was coming out I would have said sometime between July and December. Too much needs to be released to say May or June and we knew from the last call that the end date went back to December. I'm simply saying the launch window is still pretty much as vague as it was yesterday, nothing has really changed.
