Fans of Masthead Studios' Earthrise MMORPG have waited a long time between patches. According to producer Atanas Atanasov, the wait is almost over. A new post on the official Earthrise boards details what players can expect when the new version goes live toward "the end of this week, or early next week at the latest."
The patch will include fixes for the inventory stacking bug and the problems with party experience gain. The game's shadow renders are also being tweaked, and AI attacks through walls and other solid objects are being addressed. Atanasov also tells us that the previously reported development roadmap has undergone a few revisions, and most of the items on that particular list are being delayed in favor of improving Earthrise's graphical performance.
"Due to changes in our priority list you can expect [a] delay of some roadmap features such as vehicles, inverse kinematics, quest hints on the minimap, and item painting," Atanasov explains. "Our expectations are that you will see them in game in June/July 2011."

Palm meet face.....
The players have barely any tools to buildup their sandbox, and now have to wait even longer to get something going in the game so MHS can fix their previous patches. And what other bugs and f'ed up mechanics will this new patch bring in? I hate to sound like a "gimme" now person, but the subscribers have waited long enough. Vehicles, working combat, group xp, and Territory warfare should have been there at launch. WTF Masthead?

Yeaaaaa....I called this in beta. 3rd rate developer with big stars in their eyes and not the talent to pull it off. The game was a train wreck from the beginning and the people that paid to beta test this game are fools. Doesn't really surprise me at all.

Based on my experience with being involved in the beta of this game, I felt then that it was on shaky ground. I think I'll give this game a good year to workout all the bugs, if they're still around then.
It's sad from my perspective being a sandbox fan, this game just didn't deliver. They had and still do have a good story and premise for a compelling game, but they have some serious hurdles to make that a reality.

Great map design.
And that's it.
And that's it.

I'll be surprised if they ever get around to the more ambitious stuff on their "roadmap." I like the idea of supporting the "little guy" but sometimes the little guy has no business making MMOs if they're just going to rush more bad, broken games to market.
