Funcom teases new Age of Conan group dungeons

The city of Paikang is getting a bit of an update in the next few weeks, and players of Funcom's Age of Conan should be pleased to note that the Imperial capital will soon be the home of two new level-80 instances.

The dungeons are designed for elite groups and take place in two outdoor zones that were recently profiled at MMORPG.com. The Ai District features an expansive playfield along with two "set-piece" boss encounters and "the odd secret to be revealed from careful investigation."

The Tian'an District is quite different in that it features six boss fights as well as a race against the clock to clear them all. Funcom has deliberately elevated the challenge level in this district, and Tian'an will reportedly require a skilled (and coordinated) group to claim its rewards. While Funcom hasn't revealed those rewards in detail, it has hinted that they will be on par with the existing Kara Korum dungeon drops.

We talking 3-4 months away right ? Even more. Considering they are fighting new raid instance at the same time in WOW - they got no chance tbh.

But sounds like a smart move to focus on smaller groups. Not sure there are any big raiding groups even bothered with AOC atm.

@Deadalon Hey D- yes there are Raids every day and night on my server. We pull from PUGS all the time and even from our alliances.

The problem is there isn't enough people playing for very many "elite group"s to form..

Not a smart move Funcom...you need to build the game around solo friendly and very small group content and go F2P while there still is time

@Dunraven The game is incredibly solo friendly, 1-80 can be done solo, villas/slaughter house/new solo dungeon all allow for easy leveling. The group dungeons and raids make Conan what it is and getting there isn't hard at all

DT is tomorrow judging by the AoC forums, v2.2 has all the new dungeons and CC changes

Game is great from 1-80 fantastic, however once you hit that magic number it goes downhill fast, especially with the expansion now here trying to get groups for the lower level dungeons in old world AOC is pretty much impossible. A shame as some of them are really good fun and the best encounters i have seen a mmporg.

Be warned AOC is now a game for the long term unemployed, adding more content to meet the demands of the few elitist guilds that run around on the servers is the reason why the playerbase is getting smaller and smaller. Small guilds dont really stand a chance anymore. Oh and lets not mention Battlekeeps and comboskipping, TWO major parts of AOC, one doesnt work and the other is a exploit which bizzarly allows male characters to dish out more DPS than should be possible.

A damm shame this was a great game now in its death throws.

@fruitcakes Yeah that was pretty much my point....these few elitist guilds are the reason for the horrible community and the reason that so many people have left, and Funcom spends 90% of it's time kissing their asses.

Yes the 1-80 game is solo friendly if you don't want to do the incredibly good lower level dungeons and end game well you are a slave to those few elite guilds or you are SOL

I am still playing this game, enjoying it and I am glad to see some new content being added now at a great pace. The game engine update took awhile but it looks like they have been working on content all along.

I would encourage everyone interested to give it a shot. Lots of negativity around, mostly from launch (over 2 years ago) but a great game.

Cant forgive them to create a great looking game - and then destroy it with a big ugly shields system that ruins the immersion. Really sad to see game developer fail so badly on basic gameplay.

@Deadalon A matter of opinion I guess. Say if I were to try something different, which game would you recommend?

@Deadalon Shields system is pretty much unused in PvE. That's far from a valid complaint about the game as it doesn't and hasn't ruined anything in quite some time. You failed badly at basic trolling, sir :D

I would probably recomend RIFT but sadly the lvling experience isn't that great. Many zones are not well designed and quests not really intresting. Overall tho - I think its a game on the right track. Give the devs 6 months and see if they are really commited to improve the game.

The strong points about Rift is the souls sytem - the dynamic events and focus on PVE over PVP. The weak points are questing and lack of ppl on low populated server. Recomend you read up befoe you pick a server to go onto more of the active ones.

@Deadalon I have tried rift actually, and although objectively it is a good game, and good developers behind it. I found myself not liking the lore and couldn't really get into the world. Rift borrows heavily from wow which is a good and bad thing. Conan's dark and gritty lore and world, combat are much more appealing. I guess we are way off topic, looks like those new instances for conan , cc revamp and faction changes are on the live servers today!
