Marvel has let virtually all of us down, it's only a matter of time till their forums come up and people start throwing up petitions to get this game done right. F2P out the door...and no creativity. Thats a damn shame is what it is!

So either we'll be playing alongside clones, or cut off from everyone else, unless this is like some LoL style thing

@MrAlex Well like DC, at least they have canonical reasons for multiple version of the same character. Heck a team of Wolverines helped save the multiverse. I thought that was a great weakness to DC's offering. I can accept maybe the uber big guns not being available that act kinda like the pantheon, but swamping that "brand" with endless generic clones was not the way to solve that.

Yeah, I'll definitely be following this Marvel game. It'll be interesting to see how they do this.

I'm watching Gazillion's MUO because it is trying something different, but thus far I've been unimpressed by their Super Hero Squad Online, which follows a similar design decision.

Well, at least no one can say this game needs to go F2P...so we're spared that...

I would really prefer a mashup of DCUO and CO but Gazillion doesn't have that kind of talent...

But to be honest. I think they are going to make a killing. X-men Legends and Marvel Ultimate alliance did very well. This marvel game will be that except free. If they make an age of apoc mini-pack, I'll be all over that honestly

I'm guessing it will be a LoL style character setup and business model, which is actually quite good as far as F2P goes, because it allows them to make all of the actual content really free, and maintain the competitive balance, both of which are virtually impossible in a normal F2P setup. They will also have an advantage over other games using that system, because they already have a virtually limitless number of heroes already made, they just have to figure out how to implement them in game, where as other companies have to create everything from scratch.

I think it could actually work quite well, I'm not sure why there is all this negativity directed towards Marvel.

@tmarg

Simple, we don't want to be Wolverine #1,000,000

@Protoavis

I imagine they will instance everything in such a way that there is only one of each hero around at a time.

And if they do go with a LoL style mechanic, nobody IS Wolverine, they simply unlock him as a character they can choose to play for a specific game session.

He is sorta eyeballing something...

...probably chewing on tobacco, too...

...and he has a toothache....

...probably trying to get at some food between his teeth with his tongue, too!

Looks like even with the release of MUO, City of Heroes will continue to quietly dominate the superhero MMO sector. Competition keeps shooting itself in the collective foot.

@Daemodand

I like DCUO, but I do play CoH off/on.

But I do agree with you. CoH is still a game that can keep people logged on with a variety of things to do online. There is nothing wrong with small games (with great action), but it won't keep people logged in or subbed over the long-haul.
