Avatar Creations has a bit of a surprise in store for fans looking forward to Perpetuum's next patch. The update will be a full-blown expansion titled Terra Incognita and will be free to download despite the fact that it's crammed full of content. Avatar has also announced the official release date as May 4th, 2011.
So what's in store for the sci-fi sandbox's first expansion? The game world is doubling in size, and six new islands are being made available (three Alpha and three Beta zones, PvE and PvP respectively). Since you can't have a huge game world without providing players a way to avoid traversing it, Avatar is also introducing a new highway system, which will speed travel by an additional 36 kilometers per hour.
Terra Incognita is also bringing a new event notification system to the table (and by events, Avatar means UI pop-ups, not in-game shindigs). Gameplay additions include AoE damage from exploding robots, new armor and weapon modules, internal corporation markets, and various mineral and mining tweaks. Head to the official Perpetuum dev blog to get the full scoop.

So ok, the game is land robot eve online (nobody try to deny this because I've played it, and am playing eve), but one thing I never checked out is fast travel. Obviously the game world is quite large but what fast travel options are there? In eve you warp around to things, and while there might be some minimal travel at the destination, its very short. How does this work in Perpetuum?

Haven't played it in a while, but last i checked you could jump between Stations. There are a few on each island, and that's how you travel from one island to another.
Also kinda forgot the map, but on the beta island my corp called home at the time, you could use the station to jump from one side of the island to the other (N -> S kind of thing). Dunno if that's on every island or not, but it was in the north.
NOTE: station = gate in eve, outpost = station

Incarna clone lol. Can't see why spend much development time for that in EVE, same thing applies to Perpetuum.
On the other hand, the highway system seems very very cool. The main reason why i stopped playing was that the travel was boring. But more than normal boredom, i got a sense of going nowhere. In EVE, you have gates, warp, etc and the feeling is that you're moving fast in a huge world. Here it was always slow moving always, even with the above average speed bots.
The "highways" were there, most people took the same (shortest) route from one outpost to another, so giving them a speed boost is awesome.
But 36km/h seems a bit low. Idk, if it's for the sole purpose of traveling from outpost A to outpost B, a 50 km/h boost would be great...what i'm thinking at least
Anyway gonna have to check it out, might resub
