I've been absolutely waiting for this tool in Rifts and will be re-subbing on patch day because of it.

As for the concerns about it. I think MMOs need to start to play with Karma systems.

Why bother?
The games dying and its not quite 2 months yet since release:

Oh the fanboi's like to say otherwise, and will shout you down.
Trion locks and/or deletes the multitude of threads on their forums from players asking for server mergers.
But the reality is that theres only 4000 players at most playing at any given time.

You realize thats 4K per server right? Or do you honestly believe there are 40 people per server?

Dumb dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!

It's 4k players per server, x 60 servers 240k, all servers are always high on population during peak hours, during the day most remain high, but some do go medium, so let's trim it down to 200k CONSECUTIVE ACTIVE PLAYERS during peak hours.

Now, WoW also has a maximum of 4k players per server, with roughly 190 servers, but the problem with WoW is that the population is highly focused on a few servers. At peak hour, 45 servers were on high, which is near the 4k limit, just like in rift, with all the other servers on Low. We'll assume that it's 1k per low servers (145) and 4k per high, 325k consecutive players at peak hours.

For a game that just started, to have more than 50% of WoW's consecutive player 2 months post release, it's a pretty nice step in the right direction. I am pretty sure Trion is thrilled with the current success of the game. The amount of updates they are doing right now is pretty fast and awesome, and the speed at which they release updates, the way they answer the community reminds me very much of the early WoW days which made WoW successful in the first place. I hate to say it since the expression is abused left and right, but Rift might truly be a WoW-killer if it keeps up with the current pace. Right now it's trying to be like WoW and be better than WoW.

I can't wait to see if Blizzard will start responding to Rift's threat and start increasing the amount of content they release.

@Carefulwiththatpoptart Probably because he's a jizzrag with a Link which he thinks is concrete evidence that his perception is 100% accurate.

I've never played Rift, and have no interest in doing so, so I don't care either way, but reading about these MMO Doctors and their deathclocks is pretty much the internet equivilent to stapling your nutsack to a Door.

Basically, if you don't play the %$^&ing thing, don't worry about it.

Some guy died in Oregon today...I didn't know him...so it does'nt bother me....see how that works?

@Daelen and others. Its neither 4k per server nor 40 per server. The way I'm reading it, its 400 per server which is better than 40 but nowhere near as good as 4000. Just click on the individual server list at the side and shows population by server which is about 400ppl (people) per server.

Also, I'm not quite sure where they get their information from or how accurate it is, as according to that website every server in NA and every server in EU as exactly 400 people playing at peak time. Coincidence or just wrong information?!

@Snichy

YOu can easily do a headcount on the servers for each faction. I have done it quite a few times and these numbers are accurate. Fact of the matter is that some server "Overlook EU" for example has less than 75 lvl 50 guardians online during peak hours. Lowest number I come across 1 -50 lvls were 327 guardians.

Sorry guys but thats not healty comunity - specially when so many are just playing it as a fillup for WOW and many are still raiding WOW - so the log off during the peak hours when others are trying to get things done in RIFT - either 5 mans or raiding.

@meanieme Maybe you should learn to read that chart before using it to declare the game dead? The number on the right is the number of people in the queue. The only information on people playing is on the left and it's hovering pretty consistently at Medium population. If you look at the shards individually, there isn't a single one that doesn't reach at least Medium at prime time and about a fourth go up to High or Full. Seems rather healthy to me.

I think it will work just fine as long as Trion keeps Rifts alive and rewarding or something that ties into world events.
The dungeon tool was never a problem, people just want the rest of the games world to matter too.

One way to keep people hopefully in world pve with a dungeon finder type tool is to not zone them in to the instance, but to a portal type device right at the entrance. This will be a contested device that can be taken over by opposing factions/invasions, making them unusable.

So if an invasion takes control of the device, players will have to go there totake it back. If the defiant have control, guardians cannot port there, instead they have to run and try to take it over. Etc.

If it's not a server specific lfg tool scratch everything I said lol.

If something like you said was implemented, and I was playing Rift, I would either:

- Find the most imbalanced server and make my characters on the winning side.
- Leave the game.

I don't care about PvP, as long as it does not interfere in my PvE; if it does interfere, I will often leave the game and not look back.

And when I'm playing a game, for group activities that take some preparation like assembling groups to do instances, I really don't want to be asked to wait until they are available or be asked to fight for the benefit of doing them.

@vaiden That is a great idea, I have always felt that the way invasions really don't matter at all is really missing the boat and diminishes the rift system. Having some consequence for invasions (NPC or Player on PvP server) is something I would really like to see in the game.

LFG tool is *almost* always a good thing. A good portion of the subscribers don't like to sit there and spam the channels over and over looking for people to fill their group. It could be better than something like WoW's or or it could be worse, either way it's nice to see that they got around doing something that people have been wanting for quite some time. It's a convenient feature that you can post your character on and continue on with whatever else your doing without worry, instead of spamming channels or waiting to catch someone making a group.

Im not sure They are planing LFD over multiple server or just on same server. RIft is not WOW - Experts are hard... ppl that are undergeared (tank - healers) have zero chance of going through.

Rift is suffering from the same issue that every MMO game atm. Lack of tanks. Sadly.. with Trion great soul systems - they then force ppl to get special gear to either tank - heal - or dps way to early .. Meaning that if a group needs a tank .. a dps geared player can not fill that role or even learn it. THis is for me very negative for a game that is built on the great idea of multiple souls.

Special gear to tank - special gear to dps - and special gear to heal should not be needed in Experts IMO - Its first in raiding content that we should such specifications - if at all.

So no matter what - LFD tool in RIFT will not change much. Specially if its only sever wide. Cause like before - all are looking for tanks... no1 wants to play a tank.. and if they wanted.. they need to get special gear to do it. And sadly ... there are not alot of ppl that do that.

@Deadalon

And lets not forget that rift system does not need 10 tanks per invation. Usually 1 tank is enough - maybe 2. BUt there can be over 50 ppl there - most dpsing.

So Trion needs to create an acceptable balance for gear needed to tank.
