Speaking as an EU player, I'm not at all enthusiastic about this announcement. I've got no special love for Codemasters and haven't much of a problem playing MMO's on US Servers, at least if they're on the east coast. I certainly won't relish the extra lag, but I don't think the 100m/s I'll get is going to be that great a deal for me.

What worries me is the appalling track record of switch overs where Turbine games in Europe are concerned. The DDO hand over from what I read was nothing short of a disaster, and I was there twiddling my thumbs while F2P launch for lotro in Europe was repeatedly delayed again and again.

Like then, I'm finding my enthusiasm for the game utterly diminished. I can't see the point of playing it if I know it'll be shut down for a non-specific time which past experience suggests may very well be months before I see my Rune-Keeper again.

Finally, I play on the English role-play server. I know Turbine doesn't run any RP servers for the North American crowd and on the subject of whether or not the role-play servers will remain role-play, so far all I've seen is a bunch of non committal comments from the forums that "We won't change anything" which could frankly mean anything in terms of whether they're going to start supporting a server type they haven't bothered with until now.

So yeah, need a new game for the next few months I think until this blows over.

Turbine has in this case avoided the use of any 'official' servers - no official RP or PvP or Oceanic etc. All RP events are player created. I think you will see that there is less Dev interaction within the game, that is almost certain, but I'm not sure if your other fears are well founded.

Lag - I play with several people from New zealand and australia, and they don't seem to have much of a problem, and hopefully they've learned a lot of the DDO handover to make this go smoothly.
