@Deadalon You are -such- a troll. This is now the third time, in one week, that you have been speaking badly of RIFT. 1 of the 2 articles was not even about RIFT and yet you found a way to talk about RIFT in it. Shouldn't you worry about other things in life, maybe bills, college, etc ?

@The Minn

Sorry mate - Its not me that created those posts on General RIFT forums. And neither was it me that started talking RIFT in another game's topic.

@Deadalon Funny thing is, Rift does indeed have a population problem. Yet the vocal minority will call you a troll or tell you to quit playing. Ironic to say the least.

They'll be QQing about wanting to consolidate servers in 6 months while the cool kids moved on to better games.

@Weiji

Its not the vocall minority that I care about - I care more about the developer that closes all topics mentioning low server populations and server merges on their forums.

Thats a sign of a developer that is focusing on hiding the issue - instead of fixing it asap.

@Deadalon The game is dying no matter what the rabid fanboi's say, or how many times Massively deletes posts to the contrary.

You can see right here that they can barely muster a weekend bump:

Stick a fork in it, it's a dead game.

Trion has stated repeatedly they are working on a server transfer system to alleviate those servers with high pops and queues and help out the lower pop ones. That doesn't sound like a company that is hiding the issue or fixing a problem.

@Meanieme

True to your name, you show up with a negative comment on every Rift article. Trust me, your friends are NOT coming back to WoW. And even if they did, they probably rolled on another server and just didn't tell you.

Im not saying its a dead game - Im saying that the devs need to react to the popualtion issues right away. If not - more and more ppl will see dead servers - and are unable to progress. Those ppl will quit as well - even if they would like to keep playing.

@Deadalon

They close duplicate threads, so as much as you would like to see a dozen posts on the same discussion, it won't happen.

Please pass this link on to other game studios. This is how you communicate with your player base. So when you do make a mistake, you don't lose half your players.

Yes. I love that Trion gets out there in the community and does a lot of interviews that are generally relevant and informative. The Massively one recently with Hartsman was very good. However, I think The Rift also needs some more commentary too though. The company line gets pretty stale after a while and I think Cindy needs to refocus her efforts on cleaning up and managing the official forums and website. They allow way too much incorrect information to spread.

Promoting fansites is great, but new level 50 players need more information about game mechanics, dungeon mechanics and how to gear properly. There are many great guides, but Trion doesn't sticky any of them so the Rift community has to keep reinventing the wheel and that hurts us all.

The one podcast that I really enjoyed was the new RiftJunkies one that discussed a lot of the current issues that 1.2 is hoping to address.

I say let the haters of Rift keep posting crap... players are not as foolish as these guys think, we see through the crap for what it is... crap.

There are few reasons a person gets obsessed with something, none of them good, so it's out of concern for their mental heath I say let them vent, it might save a /wrists

And who knows, someday they might pull the head from butt and see there is more to life than hate & venom... that an old saying is tops:
If you don't have something good to say, STFU.

For a game that's not even 6 months old I'd say they have it together at Trion, but they must keep it together...

The content offered is good, the leveling is fun... but not good for replay on alts, I suspect it might take longer than we'd like to change this as Trion is offering a 5th soul in 1.2. I think this is to limit the use/need for alts, not sure that will stop players from thinking one route per side is stingy, and it might be.

There's about 2 months of endgame content right now, however, that's being generous, I'm including reputation grinds, T1, T2, expert Rifts and a maybe a few hard to get titles.

If the game remains stagnant for too long it could hurt...and if other MMO's launch Any time close to players running of things to do in Rift, you can be sure the exodus will be staggering.
Keep an eye on the upcoming WoW update, many players that burned out there and play Rift are waiting for that to drop, if it keeps them interested Rift could again lose many players.
All this equals a must-have push by Trion to keep on top of the 'game' or as quickly as the servers filled up and the corks popped, the place could become a ghost town with everyone wondering WTF.

A bug free, content filled patch with new adventures and character improvements can go a long way, but I hope they keep it coming... or understand they Must keep it coming.

One suggestion, if I might be so bold, don't "follow the yellow brick road"... don't raise/change the level cap, build content to challenge the current level and award the gear, titles, achievements to reward those who progress.
The problem with level cap changes is it punishes the very players you want, the hard core player who has put in hours, days, or even months to earn an epic or legendary, only to have greens and blues make them obsolete after 1-2 added levels. There is no crappier feeling than burning all the gear, mats, pots, flasks and other stuff that are no longer valid.
Let's face it, it's all relative, level 50 or level 60, you still must kill the mobs, figure out the boss and take his stuff... we just need new adventures connected to the instances and lore to keep the story going.

One other observation to support my point... I've noticed people, in games as in real life, like shiny things (you think?!), so if a player has to fight and claw his/her way to a boss a dozen times for a drop, it doesn't have to be a huge upgrade or an upgrade at all, if it Looks like God's own staff, sword, if a mount drops, a pet or the long lost trinket of Regulos... or whatever, they will come.

How many times have You went after after an item that fit this description? Many, many times for me... including a slew of mounts, pets, achievements and titles that did not add any DPS or healing... it just felt good to own and earn.

It's just my opinion, and I'm sure others will disagree, but after seeing the WoW route and how it all played out, it might be better to avoid that "yellow brick road".

The problem with Rift is their VERY small server caps due to the engine (same as WAR).

Everyone and his dog knows by now that a Rift server is LOW on under 300 people, MED = 300 to 1K and a cap is installed at 1.5K

This simply means that to deliver and keep the game going for 10 dungeons you need to be playing at server cap or 750 players on each side.

So in practice all medium servers in RIft (and that's 80% these days) don't have enough people on line to do all content.

That's what you see.

Those gamebryo server engines were catastrophic for WAR. And The makers of Rift try to remedy it by making LFD tools.

Ridiculous ... with a mere 10 dungeons btw.

WOW need the LFD tool because they have 100+ dungeons by now.

The average WOW server holds around 4K at max capacity, the max Aion server even 6K

Rift's servers at 1.5 K and 700 (350/350 on each side) on an average medium server is simply much too low.

Lessons learned: the lead designer of Rift was right all along/ 1.5 K is much too low to allow an MMORP to grow these days.
