It's one thing to tease us with a short video and a title card announcing the sequel of the incredibly beloved Phantasy Star Online 2. It's another thing entirely to make us wait a half year to get any more details! But we'll shove aside our complaints in a heartbeat in favor of diving into a pool of luscious screenshots.
At a recent promotional event, Sega unveiled a sneak peek at Phantasy Star Online 2, including 15 screenshots that 4Gamer.net snagged for our enjoyment. The pictures show off the world details, character outfits, the UI, and even some shots of combat. Astute Sega fans may even recognize a reference to another hit Sega franchise lurking about.
Reportedly, the action-RPG is in alpha testing with a hopeful release date later this year on the PC. Take a look for yourself in the gallery below!

HAH! You've obviously never played PSO.
And... let it be known that this is still a fairly rough alpha version of the game.
Either way, I'M HYPED FOR THIS!!!!
I've put thousands of hours into PSO, now hopefully I can move into a new game. PSU wasn't my thing.

Is it planned for global market?

Not likely, the event it was revealed in they are speaking of was in Akihabara, and I doubt the game has the kind of clout here in the North American market to really succeed. I know past releases have made it out here, but I don't remember them ever selling all too well here.

I wouldn't count out a release over here. PSO was, from what I understand, very popular for the kind of game it was, and PSU was just very, very badly handled by SOA (no marketing, hardly any support). They certainly made enough from PSU to keep it running on XBox.

They also adopted a Free to Play model for PSU in Japan, and have since been running it Freemium over there for a while, by what I can understand. Though, I'm not holding my breath, and honestly, I just don't care for another badly translated, buggy, lackluster Sega release.

I absolutely LOVED PSO on dreamcast (yea dreamcast!) , but the pc version - PSU (universe) left alot to be desired. I hope they hit the mark closer to the original with this one.

So it looks like it's build for the iPad, any ideas when it will hit the itunes store or droid market?

@MrGutts Silly smartphones and ipeeds are worthless for games of these controls.
Now back to the topic. The game will be coming to the US/EU as well we just know it will always come after their launch is successful. One can only pray we don't get awful support like we did with Phantasy Star Universe. This time there won't be a stupid PS2 to hold the game back.

Well last time I checked out PSO it was a console port for the PC that you couldn't even free look and it was a lobby based game like first Guild Wars.
The graphics that they are displayed in those screen shots look like they are from 8 years ago. Any game coming out in 2011 should be looking 10 times better than that.

For the record, these screenshots and videos are from a *pre-alpha* state of the game.
Tell me, have you seen what games look like before they've even hit alpha stage?
SEGA has even explicitly stated that the alpha test is going to have a major impact on how they develop the game going forward. Chances are very high you will see major gameplay paradigm shifts AND major improvements in the visuals before release.
