Sony Online Entertainment has acknowledged an issue that has caused its MMORPGs and game-related websites to be sporadically unavailable since Thursday, April 21st. SOE's Linda "Brasse" Carlson posted on the EverQuest II forums late last night, attributing the trouble to "an external intrusion."
Users have experienced connection issues in everything from Vanguard, to EQII, to Free Realms, and EQII's main website remains inaccessible as of press time. Station Cash and account services appear to be working normally.
"As a result of an external intrusion on its system, SOE interrupted its services on April 21. Promptly upon learning of the intrusion, SOE initiated an investigation and took corrective steps to bring its games and other services back up," Carlson explained. "We are working hard on bringing all of our player sites back online, but have no ETA at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for bearing with us."

I honestly wish these guys would get busted.
I agree with their point of view but i dont agree with what theyre doing. Theyre not screwing SoE over, theyre screwing their customers, and SoE screws their customers enough as it is without needing help.

Funny. During Christmas time there was a string of hacked accounts all over SoE games yet, they never admitted it could have been an outside attack on their servers... Maybe this is evidence enough? Who knows. At least they are learning and not trying to withhold this type of info anymore!

So now both PSN worldwide and SOE's service have experienced 'external intrusions'?

Firstly:
"Station Cash and account services appear to be working normally." I know there's probably nothing in it, but that just made me chuckle. Typical SOE :P
Also, it's not just SOE's products: PSN (that's Xbox Live for the PS3) has been down since at least yesterday, probably more, just as I was getting back into MAG and BFBC2. It is MOST vexing.

Being super easy to hack and play pirated software, sure didn't help the Dreamcast out.

Two big thumbs up if this is payback at Smedbucks. If its to get back at the PS3 hacking thing then that sucks.

@winterborn I think it's fairly safe to assume it's a PS3 thing.

Haven't gotten my Killzone 3 fix in 3 days. Fighting the shakes. And I thought quiting drinking, smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine over a 3 day weekend was hard.

I wonder if this is because of the Anonymous Group attacks...

I'm willing to bet that Sony has had a ton of personal information stolen (as in every PSN member) and is trying to clean up the mess before the media finds out and the sh** really hits the fan.

If it is the Anon folks, like it seems to be, I've noticed many folks being more irritated by this downtime on both Sony websites and PS3/PSN than any sort of good feelings for Anon's cause (which supposedly is the GeoHotz issue?).
So, this may be biting them in the butt more than gaining them any fans.
