The #1 best feature on any MMO forum is the "dev tracker" or equivalent. I can generally count on paid forum staff and game developers to have adequate grammar and linguitic skills and a reasonable attitude about the game. Once in a long while, a developer comment implies that its immediate vicinity in its thread is worth my lifespan and blood pressure to read.

My most hated phrase is "go back to WoW," usually used whenever a player suggests that maybe, just maybe, that sandbox game they love could do with a little more explanation for new players.

I don't know why the mods on those forums even allow that. It's telling potential customers, "Go give money to those other guys, not us. We don't like money. We heard Blizzard likes money."

If a forum has the ability to ignore a poster - I automatically ignore anyone who uses the phrase "U Mad Bro".

No matter how lucid and well written their posts might be I find U Mad Bro to be the most childish phrase a person could post.

We all have to remember, UNFORTUNATELY, that a LARGE majority of Forum posters are the same trash human beings that destroy the mmos we all know and love. These are the RUSHERS, Gear-Junkies, people that dont read quest text and those who only care about 5% of the game and honestly, dont even deserve to be playing the game. When they are playing, since 90% of their time is spent ranting and crying on forums and other mmo sites.

Also, I want to address "wow-killler" The #1 reason why no mmo, regardless of the quality, has EVER come close to WOWs subscriber numbers is because of promotion - plain and simple.

There are HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people with computers, some gamers, some not - ALL are potential subscribers and mmo players. BUT, since devs all promote to the SaME pool of 15-18million players that ARE ALREADY playing mmos, we only get SOME good players and the rest are burnt out, spoiled, jaded gamers.

We need fresh blood and WOW got it right by promoting to non-gamers and gamers that didnt play mmos, and a large majority of WOWs players never played more than 1 other mmo before falling in love with WOW.

Devs need to wake up and realize they need to find out what the REAL players want, not just OBEY with the whiney vocal mqajority wants.
S!

That's why the next big evolution of MMO games is social networking games. Social Networking users are a very large segment and Social Networking MMOs aren't as over saturated as traditional MMORPGs are right now. I believe developers have another 2 - 3 years to get something very high quality out before this market is taken up by existing product. The biggest challenging is making something that can be fullfilling in a very short amount of play time.
The other option is the console gaming market though very MMOs have had any kind of success there.

Interesting

I've been classified as Troll too many times. For answering questions, for playing devils advocate mostly, and just because I tend to be on polar opposition to a perspective.

I think this whole article is insightful but certainly at the taste of the writer, as is anything.

Everything is fine with me as long as someone doesn't 'Troll' me with their 'you are a troll' bullshit.

Good list. I would have only added, as others have said:

"u mad bro?"

and

"Bads"

Both annoy the hell out of me. *shakes an angry fist*

I have never heard "carebear" used with the definition presented in this article. I have always heard it used as an epithet for a person that is saying something positive about PvE or negative about PvP. Carebear == hates PvP

"grabs popcorn" is just plain dumb. Nothing beats showing everyone your intellectual superiority by watching the nerd slap-fight, while enjoying your favorite snack.

I detest Carebare, Fanboi, Hater and every other single word label that people use to try to Categorize, Insult and make illegitimate your comments. It's the whole idea that if people are biased their opinion doesn't matter, even though opinion by it's very nature is biased.

I think I saw all but #10 on the Rift forums just today. Egads!

@xBludx I like "meh" because it is directly traced from the Simpsons, and therefore absolved of all smarminess.
