I thought Rift had over a million subs?

@Yellowdancer

I think that was 1 million "accounts," (registrations?) not necessarily the number of people who ended buying the game or who are still subbing.

@SocksForYou

I remember IGN reporting rift had 1.6 millions subs, not accounts. I'm at work so can't find it. It was on my twitter, I'm sure.

Ahahhahaha. I soo hope you're not actually serious. 1.6 million :))))

Quick math: 41 servers in Europe. Lets say they can hold 10k active accounts (that is a gross exageration since it's been rumored the limit to be around 2500 in the beta). But lets say its 10k.

Most of the servers are on medium and high load... so lets say there's an average of 8k active accounts on each (hilarious, seeing as some dont even have 100 lvl 50s online at the same time, but lets say).

8k * 41 = 328.000

Add the USA servers and lets say we get 700k.

But again, this is incredibly over inflated... My guess would be at somewhere around 400k accounts and declining. This is current population... Maybe they had like 600k at start.

Don't forget about Trion changing the date and time around making it even harder to do this damned event.

Also, the event quests ended today with no warning leaving lots of people without a place to turn in their dailies to get the event points.

Sadly the fanboys are defending this even though Trion shouldn't be making people search a forum for information (They said a couple of days, not an exact date) on when an event is going to end, it should be on the log in screen days in advanced, or accessible in game somehow.

I have to say that Trion is one of the most incompetent company I've ever seen run an MMO. They make Square Enix look like experts.

I'd quit if it wasn't for the awesome Defiant story line and me wanting to know what's next.

"one of the most incompetent company" come now! You must not have been around for the massive debacle that was the Anarchy Online launch years ago, or the World War II online launch, those were epic disasters! I am not a fan of Rift, just plain haven't been able to get interested in it. And I definitely don't find the whole Rift things to somehow be some wondrous innovation (cuz they're not). But I do have to say they managed a smooth launch, not to say this "event" thing was well done... But I will say what I've found to be the general truth of these things, that this game like all of these won't be it's best for months to a year. These things always change (and hopefully improve) during the first months to a year sometimes fairly significantly. I strongly suspect that will be the case here also. EQ2 turned out pretty decent after about the first year, but the launch was deeply under-whelming! And they changed it a lot from launch (at this point I think it's been dumbed down too much, and it's just too long in the tooth now, but that's another matter). Anyway, these people are new out the gate, this was probably too ambitious (the money-men, pr-shills probably wanted to make the subscription numbers look better, who knows), but these people aren't the worst, and may given time be pretty good (who knows).

Erm...really? Your point is clear, but how does that place them THAT far down? Not trying to defend Trion, but I find that to be an unfair assessment.

Though, I would be pissed of I got 500 event planars and couldn't get the undead disguise.

@(Unverified). Two failures in a row both about the same event in the same week, and hardly any communication about it whatsoever. Not to mention them knowing the event was going to have problems and not doing anything to fix it.

The first screw up I forgave, it happens, but the second screw up today just showed that they don't really know what their doing and are not qualified to be running an MMO.

There's also the problems with people waiting days in queues to talk to GM's only for the GM's to resolve tickets when they're not resolved.

I've yet to see Square Enix fail this badly in the three(?) MMO's they've released.

Dude, you're silly. They've posted like 10+ messages and been on 3 podcasts saying how it didn't turn out the way they'd hoped. They even gave all subscribers free stuff. Did you want them to wash your car too?

Are you dumb? Look at the reviews for FF14. They've given subscribers multiple free months, they've restructured their staff, the producer resigned, and the company has issued public apologies for their terrible game. This isn't about new content, all of the complaints and negative feedback was about the actual game itself, and what was released with launch.

Trion screwed up with an event. This isn't part of their core game. It's an event that lasted a few weeks. Did the game break? No. Is the core game broken? No. They just messed up with how they handled a one-shot event. How the hell does that make Trion a worse company? Why is it that a company that messed up with a game from day 1 is considered "better" than a company that was solid from day 1 with a great launch that happened to mess up on their very first world event?

@Drunken Irish Sniper You are the typical MMO gamer, cry and whine and cry and whine about the MMO yet still play it.

Not only that but RIFT is more stable and solid than the majority of the titles feature Massively. I'd rather play RIFT over any of the F2P offerings out there.

I think a lot of the hate at Trion for doing things that everyone else does and making mistakes everyone else does is is stupid. And most of it is directed at nitpicky BS rather than the real problems in the game. And even though I bring the problems up, they still aren't as bad as the vast majority of MMOs.

@Rialle Most of the hate is actually based on the fact that the game is another theme park- hot key MMO. The game is so far successful and seems a bit of a threat to WoW, something not seen in a while, and well...people will be people. =/

Agree with you! People are just plain sick of hearing about precious WoW already! Enough! Stop this endless mindless comparison of everything against precious WoW, I'm personally sick-to-death of hearing it.
