There are certain constants in Final Fantasy XI that every veteran of the game knows, whether or not they were intended by the development team. It's a known fact, for instance, that you need an extra character to serve as a storage mule. You need to farm if you want money. And fishing is well-known for both being all but required for making money and being frequently boring and frustrating. But that last constant looks to be poised for changing, with the newest fishing changes promising a cleaner and easier experience while trawling Vana'diel's waters.
The first welcome change will give players a more detailed set of information when fishing rather than a simple generic message that you've snagged something. The second, however, will be even more helpful for fishers -- a message informing you of exactly what you've hooked if your skill level surpasses the level required for the fish. Both changes go hand-in-hand with a general revamp and improvement of the fishing code to make fishing easier for Final Fantasy XI's anglers to enjoy, while at the same time cutting down on the often unwanted botting that plagues fishing holes.

To the trained eye it seems that XIV has been abandoned in favor of supporting XI.

Completely untrue though.
XIV still is in strong development and they stated a long time ago development for XI would continue even with XIV being released.

@(Unverified) To the trained eye. Due respect, you are not quite there yet it seems.
Saying you are going to support XI after a new MMO is a stop loss of paying members. The failure (compared to XI's early peak of 2 million subs XIV will never amount to anything int he current market) of XIV has redoubled efforts on XI. I see more updates on XI than XIV.

@Jack Kevorkian. Looks like your eye is not very trained, and you being stupid doesn't help.
There are two separate teams, one is working on Final Fantasy XI and the other is working on Final Fantasy XIV.
They have the same resources they've had since the new teams were formed.

Sorry what are you trained in? You are management level game dev? Project manager? Execs? Or software dev? Or do you actually know someone in Square-Enix Japan?
Here is the deal, Square-Enix's last year projection was banking on the success of XIV. That didn't happened. And the difference in revenue was HUGE ( I can't remember the number). Since only MMO can generate that kinda difference in income, Square either will go for another new MMO project or continue this one.
And this is Final Fantasy. There will be followers if the game is good. So it is unlikely for them to give up on the bet yet. (because they are far too deep into this hole) I might be wrong tho.
Side note, my eyes are trained in Software Dev and Project Management. Please provide solid argument before bold claim.
