I know I'm being picky, but I'd be much more inclined to play DDO if it had a graphical update.

DDO did have a graphical update. It's a DX 11 game in fact.

What DDO needs is better artists.

Graphics certainly are important to most of us, even if the importance is not always initically obvious. I love some games because of their immersiveness, and graphics add a whole lot to that. That said, it's not all about AA and resolution -- a lot can be said, simply for an attention to details, and the glean of metals, and the sky and the trees.

Also how you can interact with the environment turns out to be of huge importance to me. That's part of what turned me off way back when during the early days of EQ2, where mountains were universally like impenetratable walls -- no sense of immersion there. I came from a game like CoH where you could go (nearly) everywhere, barring ACTUAL walls.

I think for me, games like Fallen Earth and even more so, Rift, give you an actual sense of being in an environment. There still are boundaries, but it's amazing where you can get to if you really try.
