WAKFU, a tactical turn-based sprite-animated free-to-play game from Square-Enix and Ankama, is among the more interesting offerings heading toward launch. It's precisely because of that unique blend of flavor, animation, and stylized design that it's also attracting a fair bit of attention as it approaches release. And while the beta for North American players has been a bit delayed (it's starting elsewhere on April 27th), the new trailer should help salve the pain... or possibly make it even worse.
While it's only a two-minute trailer, this offering gives players a broad overview of how the game will work, from character creation to the customizable battle system and the playstyles of the 14 different character classes. It also talks about the game's ecosystem, a unique feature whereby damaging the landscape will have long-term repercussions. If you're excited to get your hands on WAKFU from what you've seen and heard so far, the trailer is well worth the time it takes to watch.

Looks interesting.
...
BUT...
When I was younger I would buy anything from Square-Enix and have full confidence that the game would be fun.
Then FFXIV came out.
I'm not so sure about Square-Enix anymore. I think they are lazy and FFXIV brings no end to dishonor upon that once great gaming company.
Call me what you will about judging a game based off of other games made by the same company, but once bitten twice shy.
=(

@Bramen
Just to point out.
Square-Enix is only publishing it in North America. For the rest of the world it's Ankama.

@Bramen
Really? It was FFXIV that did that to you?
I've been unimpressed with just about everything since Square became Square-ENIX after the Final Fantasy movie debacle. Sounds like you've been huffing the fumes of nostalgia for a while.

This game is calling out to my Final Fantasy Tactics/Ogre Battle/Fire Emblem nostalgia. That's enough for me to give it a try.

If somebody really wanted to try this game out, the official Wakfu forums actually offer a place where people can post if they're looking for beta keys. Somebody will try to dig up a link to a giveaway that isn't out of keys yet or e-mail a spare key code to them. It also helps to follow the Wakfu twitter account if you're into that sort of thing. I may not be proud of it, but twitter how I managed to get my beta key! Unfortunately, I won't be able to play for another week due to internet issues, so I can't offer any reviews of the beta thus far.
