I agree with most everything, except #2. I still like the people running up to me on the street asking for autographs.

The character design system is a real bear if your not the sort of player that likes to invest a lot of time into it. I love spending 2 days in the PowerHouse testing every possible build. That's just me. Would have helped if the Archetypes were a little more dynamic builds. They seem somewhat stal, missing some fun power combos.

I take great pride killing people in PVP with a not popular build. Now if I can just get my Snake Gulch Lasso kill on a person, that will be my crowning moment.

Not going to happen. DCUO was your last hope.

I mostly agree although I don't have nearly as much invested emotionally or monetarily as a FFA player so I don't sweat the details too much.

Totally agree about Lemuria being the least favorite zone, although it's not the three-dimensional navigation that spoils it for me. It's more the fact that my Champion is an inferno made of fire who exudes flame from every pore, shoots explosive burning fireballs on demand, and sets the ground alight with fire around enemies ALL WHILE UNDERWATER. Just doesn't *feel* right somehow.

@Slayblaze

It feels like it's underwater because of all the lag...

...least that's what I gather from many when I was playing it over a year back.

Not sure where this rant edition came from but I only going to comment about the last point. In many games character builds are difficult, even in the most occasions. In CO the game is extremelly forgiving with non-min max builds. Just checking the forums with 1 or 2 threads it is so easy to get a decent build. There is a powerhouse designed to at least give a rough idea of performance, furthermore for gold players there is free access to a test server to try builds basically for free. So it is somebody is having problems in CO with getting a build most likely would get the same issue in many of the other mmos.

"Roleplaying a godlike character, even with flaws, is too much."

Amen! I will throw out an optimistic made up stat and say my experience matches this: 98% of people that go this route do it wrong.

What's funny is, these people are more annoying in MUCKS/RP-chat rooms because it is all verbal-text. I thought much of this went away, but apparently not so. I seem to find out people of a younger age love this (2-16). I've seen so many "Dragonball Vampiric Saiyan Highlander immortals with god like powers". Well, actually, I don't RP as much as I used to, so I don't see them. And when you confront them with it and try to challenge them to PvP, they'll either give an excuse to being defeated or give an excuse to not PvP. Of course, there are other tools, like PvE a raid with them and see them fall over and over, among others.

And ironically, these are the same people who have a low estimation of Superman as a character because he is, "too perfect", but they like Wolverine and Thor!

A nice summary. I can agree with most points - not with the soapboxy one of course. ;)

I would move "Missed Opportunities" on rank one though.
CO has some great ideas (nemesis system for example), but they are so poorly executed, it is a shame. There are tons of issues with almost every aspect of the game, be it combat, grouping or crafting. Even the amazing character creator has some problems.

Also keeping well known bugs in the game for months (and meanwhile more than a year) is horrible. Vets and newbs alike have problems understanding that. The official forum is full of posts about that annoyance.
Every bug not fixed - even if it is reported repeatedly - is a missed chance to keep a player playing ... and paying for doing so.

Another opportunity missed was the engangement for Japan.
Players asked for something they can buy in the C-Store to donate. Sony handled it that way and a couple of other MMO-companies as well. It was a chance to present Cryptic as a big player. A chance to attract new players. Alas the CSR just announced "nice idea ... but no". Oh well.

I really won't know what to do. Posting on the offical forums does not help. Feedback neither.
I like the idea of CO. And I am sure, some of the guys and gals at Cryptic work hard to make it a good game. They just don't do it well in many cases.
Maybe a new boss would be a good idea?

The instanced missions drive me nuts. I actively avoid doing any if possible. Kind of limits my time in Vibora Bay.

I really enjoyed my time in champions when I played. I had gotten a friend to start with me, so we duo'd practically from level 1 and it was super awesome. I actually liked the sidekicking a lot, as it allowed us to ad-hoc help out or join other people as we went along. Maybe we just didn't know better in terms of how the xp scaled or such, but it's always nice to be "on the same quest" as your other party members, regardless of whether you did it before or not. I played a might character, and really enjoyed picking up street lamps and SUVs and throwing them at enemies. Like when inside buildings I would pick up a couch and throw it at people while saying, "have a seat!" which would bring forth a few lols from the party members.

My friend and I started to fizzle out by the time we got to Monster Island though (level 33-ish). The quests did start to devolve more into thug hunts (damn you manimal tools to hell!), and well, the island setting just wasn't as interesting. I definitely had the most fun in Millenium City, and wish CO would have more city zones, like say, an Asian themed city, or a european themed one.

I tried CO again when it went F2P - I thought I would be okay with the F2P changes but it didn't take me long to realize I wasn't. I didn't agree, but could accept a lot of the power limitations - I thought I'd be fine because 95% of my power selection prior was from Might tree anyways - it wasn't super-optimal (aka laser knight) but at the same time it was fun, and fit into how I envisioned Super~Chiren to play. A key component to Super Heroes is their critical weakness. But I found the F2P changes to be so obnoxious. Many of the costume choices I had chosen back when I played now cost "Atari Points" to use - so even if I did sub again, I'd still have to pay extra just to use the costume components I had been using earlier. No thanks. My precious Rocket Jump travel power - which is definitely not the best from a tactical perspective, but easily the most fun from a fun perpsective - now cost Atari Points to use as well. No thanks as well.

I still think the archetypes system for F2P is a bad idea - the reason is because it closes out one of the funnest components of Champions - which is just fiddling around in the Power Room trying out different powers. Especially for lower level and new players like my friend and I were at the time - we probably spent more time in the power room fooling around than actually leveling. And as I mentioned above, we leveled at least to 33 to this way. They should make F2P choose a tree, but then allow them to choose powers, but only from that tree. To me, that strikes the balance of still giving a clear sense of enhanced playability if you subscribe, but at the same time allows someone trying out the game to really enjoy one of its most fun aspects.

Back when I actually RP'd, I always treated godmodders like schizophrenics or con-artists. Their claims are *obviously* and *nonobviously* impossible (ie, whether you have GM-level access to rules, or you're just a man-on-the-street, being older than the universe and able to kill things the rules say can't be killed - only banished - means that you're either a liar or a lunatic), so just act like the player is *expecting* you to disbelieve their character.

If they're really that big a narcissist, the best thing to do is laugh their persona off as obviously unserious. "Hey everybody look, it's Tom of the Silence Before Time! Bring us any cool stock tips from the future, Tom?"
