Earth Eternal has been in a strange sort of limbo since last summer when Sparkplay Media all but folded. The company closed down both the game and the website and also laid off all but two employees as of August 2010. The first of the year brought a glimmer of hope in the form of the title's acquisition by Sankando as well as a fresh round of fan discussion.
Since then, it's been all quiet on the Earth Eternal front, but the silence was broken a few hours ago via the game's Twitter feed. While the amount of information is far from overwhelming (the tweet acknowledges that Earth Eternal has been reborn as Ikimonogatari and links to the new website), it's good to see that the game may yet return in some form or fashion.

You're kidding about that name, right?

@Daemodand Well to be fair if Asian MMOs can be "westernized", why not ... But i wonder, when (and if) it comes back to the western market will it have broken English... One of the nice things about it was that for once there was a free to play game without retarded quest text.
Personally my biggest problem with it was laggy combat.

The only reason I did not like that game was that the lag made it all but impossible to be efficient as a mage (for me at least)

Actually, Sankando signed an agreement to publish the game in Japan before Sparkplay went under, so this isn't particularly surprising. I aslo see the IP as being very friendly to an Asian market.
My *guess* is Sankando--being a publisher--is paying for development, hence the Japanese-only version. I'm curious to see if there are any publishers lined up for other regions or if Turnout Ventures (the actual developers) are considering self-publishing for the Western Market? Self-publishing didn't work out so well last time, but Turnout Ventures is a Time Warner company, so they have much deeper pockets.
I'm excited about the game being reborn, personally, but disappointed it won't be in my language (for now, at least).
Also, in regards to the overall development of the original version, check out this chat log with Shazbawt (formerly of Sparkplay Media):

Thanks for the great info. I liked the game, but didn't know about the particulars (and also noted the Japanese company/website link).

The game was alright but it didn't know what it wanted to be. You had graphics that appealed to children but gameplay that was straight out of any mainstream MMO for a more advanced audience.
Hopefully the new owners can give it that definition it ineeds to pull in sufficient players to keep going.

@bobfish Agree. I stated as much in my initial beta feedback well over a year ago.

Hearing that music just brought back so many memories... I was on the alpha testing team for EE back in the day, and even though it was a broken mess, it had an atmosphere that I really, REALLY want back.
I even like the updated character models / textures, and I can't even stand anime stuff. It looks just stylized enough to pass!
My ONLY complaint is with the site. What's the deal with that blue bunny pushing her butt out?

Yes, let's bring in players to a game hardly anyone knows exists by giving it a name noone outside of obscure Asian villages can pronounce.
"Hey, what mmo do you play?"
"Iki....Ikam...Ik.......WoW."

@(Unverified) Considering it's being made for the Japanese, not us, why is that a problem?

Then why bother to have it here? Last I checked, this wasn't a Japanese site.

Hope this game is published again in the US....I loved it! Had so much fun playing as a Frog, was a nice change from the typical fantasy MMO races. =D

Because it's:
1) A news update regarding a game previously featured on this site
2) Because it's the first in (hopefully) a series of announcements regarding the game's resurrection. While it may only be published in Asia Pac now, many of us are hoping it'll return for the Western market. As such, any news on it is interesting.
