Congrats Smed, glad you're pulling all those numbers. Too bad you're laying off staff and cutting projects in the meantime. Just saying.

It's easy to hit 100 million players when a player is the same as a website hit to them.

Heres an easy way to show how popular the game is in F2P title.
There is no need at all to post "created accounts" just because others do it either they only do because they have nothing really to brag about.

Peak player activity:

"We created a new record! XXXX gamer where logged into the game at XX:XX XX.XX.XX"

Monthly/weekly playeractivity:
"XXXXX unqiue player (by accounts) logged into the game within the last month/week"

Its easy to report numbers with some value but most just dont want to because if they would post them it wouldnt sound great at all.

I'm a gamer, not an industry analyst , broker, Metric consultant or armchair developer. I don't know or really care how many subs FreeRealms has, all I do know is every time I log in with my Kid brother there are a crap ton of people playing and they are all wearing Station Cash bling...So we can safely assume that SOE is making a Shit-ton of money off of this IP.

But really who cares how many people are playing and if it is a success or not? Just don’t understand the obsession with SOE’s failure that some folks have.

Well, if SOE doesn't decide to flush it down the toilet with multiple game-changing patches within a short time frame then maybe it'll have a chance. It's just hard for me to believe that SOE is capable to making and maintaining a working product. I'd be stunned if they actually had some success with something!

Nobody cares about free to play numbers because they don't mean anything.

First off they don't translate into any kind of revenue numbers. With a subscription game you know that 5 million subscriptions payments monthly is a lot of money. With 5 million F2P people you could be making nothing at all.

Second how do you count them? Since they don't have to maintain a subscription you could easily count every account that has ever been created as a player and boast 100 million players when you have less then 1 million actively playing let alone the amount that is actually paying anything.

F2P player numbers mean absolutely nothing to anyone.

@SnarlingWolf there's metrics to measure how it translates. Average Revenue Per User, and Average Revenue Per Paying user (ARPU/ARPPU) are used. Generally take all the revenue and divide it by total population for one, or among everyone who has bought something from the latter.

As for counting, yeah, this should read "Free Realms has 17 million registered ACCOUNTS." Players can have multiple accounts, and not all accounts are active players.

What is Smed smoking lately? All the new things added in the last year was more and more cash shop goodies. Where's the next realm? The new race?

The last major update of any note in my book was the house, a wave they are still riding judging by how much fun my teen aged siblings my own child are having with it. However we are all basically bored out of our tree, but you know thanks for the new aesthetics pets, again.
