We'll forgive you if you did a double-take at the headline proclaiming an impending Allods Online launch, because frankly we did the same thing. While it seems like the free-to-play sci-fi/fantasy hybrid has been around forever, it has in fact been in an open beta period since February of 2010.
All that is about to change on April 26th, as Gala-Net has announced the title's official release coinciding with the 2.0.02: Astral Odyssey patch. So while the game has been in the public eye long enough to provoke a controversy, resolve another one, and generally make itself at home amidst the collective free-to-play psyche, it's all been something of a gigantic warm-up.
The Astral Odyssey update is bringing a lot of new content to the table, including a level cap increase (47), two high-level zones (Kirah and the Isle of Revelation), and two new gear systems (refining and draconic relics). Six new allods are coming as well, and you can read all about the officially official release patch at the game's website.
[Update: The EU version will be launching May 11th]

So... the $20 backpacks, the ungodly triple-occurrence of horrible death systems, bad item shop, etc etc... was all really just an open beta?
Does that mean the "real" release will be epic?!

This could have been HUGE, but the mismanagement of the cash shop in the beginning did it in. I had such hope. They have a great game engine. So much potential. Once you break the trust, its hard to get back.

@Ryn Pretty much. I played the game from the last of CB to the Gipat Patch, and I was actually pissed off about the potential this game had and how it was bludgeoned to death with bullshit patches and CD prices.
I'll be honest, Im actually thinking of going back, but only if they pull back the XP Grind and the completely idiotic mob Strength...I loved dying to Squirrels that were lower level than me...
The free Holy Charms are a good start.

Feels like it launched, imploded and crashed about five years ago.

I wonder if there is anyone still responding to criticism with "this is just open beta, they'll fix that before launch" ?

Didn't this game die in beta due to massive player exodus caused bythe horribd cash-shop and its mandatory purchases?

More or less yeah. IMO, it's a good game, but I don't blame anyone for quitting or not wanting to come back.
I think this game could've been THE definitive F2P title, but they screwed up the cash shop/customer service so bad that so many people felt so screwed over that they'll never come back.

Ummm I'll stick with DDO 'til they get the bugs and from what I've read spectacular customer service fail sorted out. Maybe a few years or so, eh.

It's a fantastic game with one of the most cleverly designed endgames I've ever seen but they still require Incense to get back your 50% damage debuff. They give out 1 Incense a day but it means that every time you play you have to trek back to the Capital city, then go hunting.
Or, of course, buy them in the cash shop.
And yes, that's a damage debuff. When they introduced Incense they reduced everyone's damage output 50%. Then said you could get it back by buying something from the cash shop.
This game broke my heart.

@Pingles Yeah the whole gimping players to sell them CS items is pretty much what did the game in for me. I'm more than happy to buy pointless fun things for a game I'm enjoying. Fat chance on me buying items when the publisher/developer is trying to grief me into it.
Hell I was even on the front lines defending them when they first launched the backpacks (6slots) for $20, figuring it must have been some error and they meant $2.... seeing as 2-3 dollars for 6 slots isn't bad and I was eagerly anticipating the CS launch so I could buy the bag, What a fool was I.
I'll probably go back and check it out after the launch but its doubtful I'll stay. They just instilled too much bad faith and after looking forward to the game for almost a year before a publisher was even announced.....

Ya this is one of the few games that i loved the game, hated the way the company handles it. It had alot of potential but with all the money grabbing they did early will probably keep me away from it permanently

I might try it again when it officially launches, but Forsaken World has become my secondary MMO of choice and I don't see the much more hardcore Allods replacing it.

I recently started playing Allods and this is a high quality game. The music is produced by the music producer of Dexter. Also I had read about the item shop issues and they're no longer there.
