Shouldn't this be on Joystiq, not Massively? It doesn't look like it's an MMO at all.

@Callagan

There are plenty of MMO-like elements to it, character levels and progression, quests and missions, both PVE and PVP, soloing, grouping, guilds (called a Company here), player selected Skill Tree, tiered Gear levels, weapons can be both modified and upgraded, the Town sections are "massive", multiple modes including Co-Op (thats the Zombie Mode that resembles Ghosts N Goblins) loot drops,rare items and so on.

It's like an online multiplayer version of the Metal Slug series only designed for the PC mouse/keyboard instead of the Neo-Geo console.

Yeah it's not 3-D but there are plenty of 2-D MMOs out there - this one has a combat oriented theme, Not everything has to have elves and dwarves and fairies in it to be an MMO. Some of us prefer Submachine Guns to Swords...

@Slayblaze Ugh, so it sneaks in by having town lobbies. I guess that's all you need to be an MMO now.

@Callagan It's not an MMORPG but anyone who's played it for 5 min can you tell you it's definitely an MMO.

Too much Massively!

Do people really come to these pages for information on games like this?

Call me old fashioned, but when a game looks like Ghost and Goblins and it's supposed to be a newsworthy MMO, makes me question my own sanity....

I know it's nice to get beta keys, but I'd rather have an empty space than click on links like this and read on a totally unrelated genre of gaming?

@kgptzac

none outside of that this is a total rip ... but rip or no it's actually damned fun, and Metal Slug Online is such a no briner that it's Snk's fault that this game is ripping them off because they didn't get on it sooner.

Step one: Hire a non-paid intern.
Step two: Tell them to make a game with as little resources as possible.
Step three: Profit.

I immediately took a key because here at mass it's almost impossible to get one for betas (too... much... readers...).

Thereafter I watched the trailer in the article and... well, here's my key, I don't need it:

*damn, once I got a key I don't want it :(*

Well I am glad Massively posts about games like this, looks like a lot of fun. Even though it may be mostly instanced fighting it's not much different than having 90% of WoW (or most other MMOs) be all about 5-20 players in an instanced zone. The line between MMOs and lobby based games is a blurred line but I would much rather Massively include more games than less games no matter what kind they are (as long as it is somewhat an MMO).

Its pretty much Metal Slug Online. its fun for a casual game when you just want to blow some stuff up for a bit. I usually just play a couple of games a day.

To bad you guys are bashing it without trying it. It's actually a fun little game for what it is. I'd recommend giving it a shot actually. Pretty fun.

sweet Jesus, is it just me or has the net become flooded with asshats who haven't got anything better to do whit their time than to bitch and bitch and bitch.

WTF, are you all just adrift WoW players looking for a new place to troll now that you have migrated to Rift and feel that you can't go back to spaming the hell out of the WoW forums?

The difference is we have a legitimate complaint and while, once again, you just have a facile argument to troll.

@Rayko

what complaint?

that this isn't a mmo? it's a cash shop based online game with instanced co-op & PvP gameplay, maybe Massively should drop it's coverage of Guild wars if you have trouble qualifying that as a mmo.

so what, it's not got a purdy 3D engine and fetch and return "X" number of rat's asses. as a fan of metal slug, I've actually been waiting for this game to hit CB for a little while now.

You can call it whatever you want , it's still not an MMO.
