If you're going to include zombies in your game, they're there to be shot. That's a simple fact of life, a fact that Undead Labs seems to be fully cognizant about. The company's most recent developer blog talked about firearms for its upcoming zombie outbreak games, and the topic proved so irresistible to potential players that a second question-and-answer session has been posted talking more about guns. Whether it's in the console version or the full-scale MMO, who doesn't want to be sure of the highest-caliber destruction one can wreak upon the undead?
The original developer blog talks in depth about trying to balance a realistic feeling with what players will expect from guns, but the follow-up goes into more detail. Gunfire and sounds will indeed attract zombies to players, but the team doesn't seem interested in burying players under mountains of different ammunition types. The guns in question will most likely not be licensed brands, although some licenses are being sought for some more iconic weapons. There also won't be a full spread of exotic firearms in the console game, Class 3, although the MMO version will likely have a wider variety. Take a look at the full set of answers for more details on the best part of zombie invasions -- sweet, sweet hails of bullets.

Too bad it won't be for PC... console only.

@HokieKC I hope they don't want a sub fee along with the 360 live fee. It looks really good, and might nab a 360 just to play it

I can only see Undead Labs giving themselves plenty of rope with these posts. Especially when they keep using concept art rather than actual screenshots.
Everything that is said now will be remembered and compared against what is actually delivered. Much better to manage those player expectations by not building them up to begin with.

Sigh....I read this whole article and then only realised by reading the comments this is a console only game. I thought it was the "other" zombie mmo in development.
Massively really needs to put a PC/Console Tag on their news if they are going to start covering console only titles in a genre that is predominantly PC.

I heard that UDL is already rethinking the whole console only thing. Time will tell.

@Dunraven They have to negotiate with M$ on that one, which I'm sure they'd be up for if they latch GWL on it, but the biggest determining factor will be the success of Class 3, the XBOX LIVE! Arcade game.
Even then, PC production would be a sideline next to the console version, and most likely -after- the former is already produced.
I want it on the PC, but not a year+ after the console version.

I haven't seen any screenshots yet for this title, the only thing they have posted so far has been artist renderings. But I'm getting a feeling that this game is going to be very similar to Dead Nation on the PS3. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, but I'm not quite sure we have an MMO here. Maybe if they charge $20 for the game then a monthly fee of $1.75 we might have something - but I just can't see a lot of console players forking out a monthly fee on top of their XBOX Live sub.

@HokieKC
If they're going to make it 360 exclusive and have it be a lobby-based shooter with a subscription, it's going to flop hard. On the other hand, if they're going to create a fully realized MMO in an open world environment with a subscription, you'll never see it come to 360. Microsoft will just relegate it to Games for Windows Live, they'll never allow such a game on Live unless they have some drastic change in policy.
When Funcom/Cryptic/Square Enix have all announced dead ends on 360 MMO development, mainly due to resistance by Microsoft, I doubt Undead Labs is going to get any preferential treatment, even if Microsoft is publishing.

Will be fun to play i'm sure. Big fan of the zombie genre of games. However. Honestly, I haven't bought a console since Nintendo 64. Wish they would make it for the PC.
