@jslim419

I presume you'll have the same sentiment about BioWare a month around the release of SWTOR.

@Utakata. Haha, they are censoring the truth by deleting posts about the writers getting payed off to hype up Rift!

@jslim419

I get so mad when MMO sites write about MMOs! It's obviously a sham!

@Utakata

i won't need to. because Trion worlds will own the joystiq network, and they wouldn't dream of allowing a competing game to advertise on their property, even tho Trion has invaded and and paid to plaster ads for Rift all over nearly every WoW centric site.

@jslim419 Okay Glenn Beck... Does the Muslim Brotherhood control Trion too? Is George Soros plotting to take over AOL's blog network and fill it with Anti-Conservative bias? Is Massively going to become a Socialist website, rationing news out and using mind control on the readers?

Conspiracy theories are fun.

Hey, Puremallace, are you doing okay? Recently you're becoming the first post in a thread about Rift to even mention negative criticism or haters.... no need to jump at shadows.

@jslim419 Just to be clear -- we get paid by AOL to write about MMOs, good/bad/ugly, regardless of who the advertiser du jour is. We don't "get paid by Trion" to write anything. I don't even know whether we have RIFT ads right now -- most of us block ads to avoid that influence, plus AOL handles all the ads, not us. And unlike most gaming sites, we can't accept stipends from game companies, like flights and hotel stays, anything that could be construed as a bribe, basically. Integrity kinda sucks sometimes. :D

And hey, I'm not even playing it right now (time issues). But RIFT is getting a lot of coverage because it's huge. That's just how the news works! We can't just ignore huge stories because of a few hate mails. That includes the stories that make RIFT look kinda bad too (like the mass-hacking stories a while back).

I will admit that I am rather tired of hearing about Rift, but like someone said above, it is a huge game at the moment.
Am wondering what their post free month retention rate will be though.

I played Rift for about eleven hours a day for twelve straight days starting the hour it was launched, but haven't touched it since. What it comes down to is that it's just another typical MMO. It's a well-refined version of traditional MMO, but . . . it's still all "lots of people playing the same single player RPG in a big world with other people who are also playing their own instance of a single player RPG" and no "it's a player driven sandbox". As such, nothing about it is compelling enough to stay and it suffers the same generic feel that all the other MMOs tend to.

It's like a really good modern pop song. It may be well produced and catchy, but it gets old quick and is still just another meaningless pop song.

@(Unverified) I agree pretty much, though I don't think making it a player-driven sandbox would fix much for me either, as I generally have disliked most of the 'sandbox' type mmos I have played a lot more.

RIFT is fine, it does it's thing well, it just doesn't really do anything new.

So you burned yourself out of the game because you have no self control and say the game should be a sandbox?

Please tell me of a sandbox that has subscription numbers comparable to WoW.

@Gaugamela To be fair, you shouldn't use WoW as the benchmark, I mean it IS the industry standard, but you shouldn't say you have to put up numbers comparable to wow to be a 'success', because then no MMO has succeeded except for WoW (which is really not the case)

Though I agree that RIFT not being a sandbox is not the reason.

No one forces any of you complainers to read these Rift articles. If it's Rift related just skip over it. It's really not that hard.

@(Unverified) This isn't really a RIFT article either, it's the week in review post. But RIFT talk is going to come up when they mention it in the week in review.

@jslim419. I doubt they will bother buying the site while they can just pay off the writers like they currently are.

@Brianna Royce

What's the definition of "huge" here?

In terms of current buzz (which you generate)?
Or in terms of subs/monthly player retention? (I haven't seen any numbers yet, but maybe I've missed that)

So I'd like to know how one comes to the conclusion of RIFT being "huge" game at the moment? Compared to what?

lots of stuff about Rift to be sure, lets touch on the bad. I have touched on the good points, lets list some "more" bad things. Customer service blows hard in this game, and this single thing is going to sink Rift very quickly, people have little tolerance for copy and paste responses and "please resubmit".

PvP, openworld is ok, warfronts blow chips, fighting players with 30 plus buffs is over ridiculous, at least in openworld you can have some fun. Matches wont select for gear level or groups and the majority of the time premades are playing against pugs. Premade teams have rank 4/5/6 folks since this is happening and have far outstripped the gear level of the pugs, no skill involved, mezz, stun, stun, gos pyro, circle of oblivion, repeat, no skill at all.

The world event going on.......is it? I read about all the massive rifts always opening up, well where? I see one group of event type rifts per area per day, two days in thats pretty lean, and the channels are full of folks asking for people to flood an area so an event at least has a chance to start....maybe on the pve servers its different?

Briar cliff is THE highest populated server, why does it seem like a ghost town in alot of areas? Sure the capitals are always busy and the lower areas have a few (not alot) folks running around, but stillmoor (lvl 50) is only busy for seemingly 3 hours and then the aussies take over, same thing is stated, just not alot of folks, which leads to my next question............just what is the server capacity on these servers? What is the population? Trion states these are secret, in their own words, wth Trion. I am going to go out on a limb and state under 1500 per server for Trions secret reasons.

Outsourcing the help. Killing the game, nuff said.

Pve souls have destroyed pvp, Trion made the first round of adjustments and there are still big problems, "we will evaluate and go forward in a few months", hate to say this but they get one paid month sub from me (down from my planned 6). To little to late for the important things that need to be addressed and it seems half their staff is working on the SCI-FI thing and the other on feeding the already prepared content for the event that was/is.

While it can be a pain to find a group (?) you can find pugs at peak window times. The guilds pretty much stick to their own schedules and guilds wont take anyone (join wise) unless they meet the floating gear scores ala wow. Yes the soupmakers have finally arrived in Rift.

If your looking to do anything solo to get anything good, forget it, storyline included, but you can solo. If you just want to grind forever to gain faction and pay overinflated prices for substandard gear and items in the auction house then sub.

Next round of truth when needed. cya ingame. (grin)

@Graill440

I think you got that backwards. PVP balancing destroyed PVE. Despite what excuse the devs give. You know its a cause and effect from all the whiney crybabies screaming for nerfs. Most of what they did in this last patch didn't even make sense. Besides, who the hell cares how another class plays in PVE. Buffs not nerfs.
