You have to hand it to Trion. It's pulling out all the stops to mitigate the dreaded one-month population churn that often accompanies a newly released MMORPG. First it was a series of live events and a smattering of new content for the title's 4-week anniversary, and now comes word of the Allies of the Ascended promotion.
From April 1st through April 4th, current RIFT subscribers can bring a friend, loved one, or any other type of acquaintance to the world of Telara for free. An ally code "will grant new players (excludes existing RIFT subscribers) a digital download of RIFT and access to certain features of this game during the Allies of the Ascended event."
Check the email associated with your RIFT account for further details, or head to the official website to get started.

Makes sense to me. All MMOs, imo, should do this. Even just a one-day pass would suffice.

Yep, definitely got to hand it to them. I don't think much of Rift itself, but Trion are proving time and time again that they know what they're about. Looking forward to seeing their future projects.

Or be a real friend and don't recommend a broken game that will be dead in 3 months.

Hey, in fairness, the game is pretty polished. Problem is it's very generic which itself is reason not bothering with it.
I must admit it bums me out when these games do well (I know, I'm a terrible, jealous person) I find it funny that people complain about there not being any innovation in MMOs and then hop on to the newest, shiny, generic MMO that comes around. DON'T SUPPORT THE UNORIGINALITY AND THEY WILL START COMING UP WITH NEW IDEAS SOON ENOUGH. Simple as that.

@Weiji Surprised it took one of you this long to show up. Been playing a month. Fail to see what's broken.

I don't play RIFT, but it's a step in the right direction. Right now it's less important to reward vast new innovations than it is to reward companies who can 1) put out a good, polished product that actually plays well, and 2) support their game and their playerbase. Some people don't desperately want a genre overhaul; they just want a game that's fun and that isn't falling apart at the seams because it was rushed. RIFT is perfect for them, and if it continues to do well it'll be some much-needed competition for the very, very few genre giants.

@truthlesshero Sure, it's polished, to a point. Aside from broken quests, broken rifts and last I checked, the Stillmoor invasion doesn't work, strength does jack for warriors and so we wear leather.. There is just a lot of little things here and there that you may or may not notice that just add up.
And of course you have grossly underpowered classes with some being too exceptional at the end game. There's too many "why didn't they catch this' moments. I've submitted 10 or so bugs and a ton of feedback.

@truthlesshero this is what gets me the most.
We just got through a whole phase of "WoW is killing the genre, it makes no sense to try and copy it. Too many cookie cutter games. Etc." And those were some valid points. There was a lot of ennui over doing the same old quest grind.
Yet the moment an insanely derivative game comes out everyone transforms into "We don't need innovation, just a stable launch and polish will do the trick." It's maddening.

Anyone playing on EU? If so, would they mind posting a code? Would wanna give this a go, just to see how it is (my MMO fast is beginning to get to me).
Can't understand though why they dont just setup a trial thingy, it's the best way to bring new players to the game. Oh well, guess this might do as well.
