Video may have killed the radio star, but interesting clips from MMOs become the stuff of viral legends. Now, thanks to Trion adding YouTube posting integration to RIFT, players no longer need to rely on an external video recording setup to capture their gaming action and send it out for complete strangers on the internet to watch. That's right, you too can share your finest moments of pwnage easily thanks to the integrated YouTube uploader. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be glad to hear that the RIFT uploader tool doesn't automatically add Linkin Park, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, or any similarly metallic soundtrack to the clips. (We would note that it will capture all sounds on the computer, so if you're playing goofy music or sexytalking on VOIP, be warned!)
According to our very own Beau, who loves nothing more than to upload lots of video, RIFT's movie feature is extremely simple to use. All you'll need to do is to connect your YouTube account from inside your RIFT account settings, much like you currently do with Twitter. From there, hitting CTRL-Y will start the recording, and pressing CTRL-Y a second time will stop it. The video is encoded automatically, and a small button will appear in the corner of your screen when your video is ready to upload. Just click the button and off to YouTube it goes! Beau also noted that if you have Twitter connected to your account, RIFT will send out a tweet telling your Twitter friends that you've uploaded a new game video to YouTube. As such, you may want to hold off on using the new video feature during any "sick" days at home.
[Thanks, Chris!]

Very nice move to market their game. For guilds this is a bonus.

Even though I dislike the game, that feature is extremely neat and something that should have been thought of long before now.

Rift videos will be as numerous as cat videos.
Time will tell if that's a good thing.

Dislike Rifts, but I have to admit that is a pretty sweet feature. In retrospect it seems so obvious that you wonder why it has been the standard for years.

Coolies, now i can share the extreamly poor dancing animations in rift with the world muhahahahaha!
Fun game, lacks a bit of depth, but fun all the same, cool feature, but the dancing is quite poor compared to other mmo dance animations. All the more reason to bombard the world with it me thinks lol.

Everyone should adopt this. FRAPS is such a drag.

Very nice.
Other MMO devs should be scrambling to copy this feature.

Fantastic feature - more modern games should integrate it. Easily creating videos and sharing them with friends is an awesome way to cross-promote the game and make those who don't play yet (like me) - curious.
Well done Trion.

Wow. Just... wow. I would have never thought a developer would put something like this in the game. This is one cool feature, and you can bet that Blizzard is going to implement this in a later content patch.
The only bad thing is I already play Rift. I like to watch vids of games I don't have to see the gameplay and help me decide if I want to try the game. Unfortunately, FAR too many people have this idea that putting a completely shitty song in place of in-game sounds is a good idea.

Nice feature I must admit (even if still it doesn't make me interested in playing Rift, but it's nice feature nevertheless) and will be welcomed warmly by mmo community. :)
Too bad tho, video you upload on YouTube is named so weird (numbers ect.) instead of some customizable name (like "my first video")

Wow, what a great idea, and doesn't do anything to compromise anyone's identity online.

The only downside is that the videos can only be 3 minutes in length, which makes no sense. Youtube allows up to 15 minute videos. I'd stick with FRAPS, but it makes the game run like crap, whereas this has no effect on the game whatsoever.

I'm hoping the steam screenshot thing one day evolves into something like Bungie's amazing Halo file sharing service/website.
And as far as the games themselves, how come strategy games are the only PC games that have a decent in-game replay system?
