@Saker

No what's funny, is one day, one of our cats actually opened the oven (it was off) and fell in during a guild raid, which they all heard that corny joke before. I had to take a picture of a oven to prove that one.

I usually just tell the truth if I know the group or it's a nice group of people. If I don't know them and they're getting on my nerves (which is EXTREMELY hard to do mind you lol) then I'll just straight up sign off without saying anything.

@Vladimyr

Oh my god this one i used in parties and Dynamis in FFXI. I'd try to save it though for when I was too tired to keep going because if your connection is messing up and you "disconnect" you gotta stay offline for at least 45 minutes to 3 hours (for things like Dynamis 3 hours isn't too far fetched). I would typically just put "Family Emergency". If they ask questions and you don't answer just means it was personal.

I convince them they too want to leave. "Guys, this isn't working out." Or, "Well, I'm the healer/tank/important guy and I have to go. Want to replace me? Sorry, I just can't stand being here any longer." Et cetera.

I go with the truth:

"Dungeons/Raids are complete wastes of time, and y'all just proved it to me all over again. LATER!"

Me: "Everybody help me summon this refreshment. HEY, WHERE'D YOU ALL GO TO?"
After a four screams all the way out in the furthest town from my instance: "Oops, sry. Didn't mean to hit the open portal button. My bad, maybe I should quit, what with being tired and all. Have fun!"

Failing person: "Putting you on ignore and no more (heals/aggro pulls etc...)
failling team:"Fucking god, you guys get on my nerves. /quit"

"This isn't working out" works like a charm. Just saying it gets morale down and after that you are pretty much allowed to leave guilt free. That said, i only use that power for good, i don't lie. Or i say that im exhausted when that's true.

I know, im boring.

If something's going on in real life, I'm honest about it.

If they suck, are nice, but don't listen, then I'm honest about it (though usually using the "Sorry guys this isn't working out..." line)

If they suck, are nice, and do listen, I stick around and try to help them out.

If they suck and aren't nice, I usually just leave. If it's specific offending players I'll make sure everyone else in the group knows why, and might reform the group without the offender(s).

guild group or friend group etc : lol guys this is ridiculous, lets just try again later / training events will be scheduled 0930 tomorrow, take the wipe

pick-up group: /leave

one person is the problem: PM other members, vote, pm and /kick if voted, /LFM

i dont do pick up groups unless forced at gunpoint, but yeah i tend to just say it like it is.

For late night runs and tired: the truth - "Can't stay awake." or "My head is hitting the keyboard."

For truly f'ed up runs (with people I don't know): quit game abruptly and play something else for awhile, then go back. (If I run into them later and they ask what happened, I tell them we had a power outage or the server kicked me for an unknown reason).

For messed up runs with people I know: a half-truth - "Sorry guys this just is not working out" and... /homeport

If its with guild, there is no excuse just persevere. If its with a group with generally good people or just 1 bad person, I explain it isnt working out and good luck finding my replacement, or if its a group full of cocks, I just leave.

I haven't ever felt the need to lie.

If people want to do a dungeon run they can do a dungeon run, I usualy warn people if I can't stay long usualy saying ahead of time "I need to leave by X" then they can choose to take me or not.

If someone asks me to help them and I don't want to I usualy say "sorry can't right now" or "no thanks, good luck!" depending on if I am busy or planning on being busy or simply just don't want to do it.

If during a dungeon run I feel we as a group are not working together properly I'll usualy just say so. Say I'm going to take a break and then either thank them for the invite or wish them luck continuing without me.

I tend to be fairly patient though, group has to wipe many times before I'll call it a day. I've never dropped group after one or two wipes I just find that a little impatient.
