Are there any more recent reviews of SWG out there? I haven't heard anything about this game in a long time.

@Naru now in 3D -- Hiya Naru. We don't do reviews exactly, but I can point you to some Massively articles that may give you some insight as to how the game is actually faring in the last year, because let's be honest, if you paid attention to only the trolls in SWG news posts' comments, you'd think the game ended five years ago with the NGE, and it most certainly didn't. :D

Jef focused his Community Detective on the state of the playerbase and customer service in September: http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/09/07/massivelys-community-detective-issue-7-star-wars-galaxies/

Krystalle played and wrote about SWG for six weeks as part of our Choose My Adventure series, starting here: http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/07/07/choose-my-adventure-in-a-galaxy-far-far-away/

And Justin celebrated SWG's 7th anniversary last June with a month-long feature in his Game Archaeologist feature, starting here: http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/06/01/the-game-archaeologist-and-the-star-of-the-galaxies-the-history/

We'll very likely be looking at the game again come June for its 8th birthday!

@Brianna Royce Hey, thanks so much for the primer on recent impressions of SWG! I've been looking over what you linked and all the Choose My Adventure posts and they're giving me a much better idea of what SWG is like nowadays than a silly ol' review would anyway.

So far what I've read is intriguing. I'd download the trial... if only I lived a long, long time ago in a galaxy far away where I had the free time for an MMO like this >_<

Maybe next fall if GW2 isn't out yet, I'll give it a whirl. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to any future Massively coverage on the game :3

The game is doing fine. As is Jimmy Hoffa.

Seriously, though. SWG is hands-down the greatest sandboxy-themepark on the market.

Seriously though, the game broke my heart. It did. I loved this game, imo the first 6 months this game was 10x better than WoW. Faction based sandbox mmo, i have to stand back in awe.

I'm sorry but it all came crashing down. Sony ruined it just like they did Planetside, you know it. Now you want me to be nice, i can't. I wont reward these people.

@Darkmoone

What does your post have to do with this article? You're not commenting on this actual article, which counts as off-topic posting. This isn't a "What An MMO Was Like Nearly 8 Years Ago" article, it's an article on the latest content coming to the game now(and not content from the first 6 months of the game). So either comment on the article at hand or don't post. What is it they say? If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Hmm. Try as I might, I can't seem to find anywhere on the 'Net exactly what was wrong with the NGE beyond initial bugs, "I had to work so hard for my Jedi, now they're everywhere! WHAAAAAH!", "How dare they betray the Almighty Lore by letting players be Jedi at a time when there's only supposed to be two on each side?!", the ever-popular "Change is bad!", plus general ranting without any specifics, of course.

Seriously, if you (or anyone else) want to keep going on about how bad it is, give us some specifics about how SWG is inferior...

@RogueJedi86

You see stealthrider talking about Jimmy and Brianna talking about trolls, yea my original post was deleted, your coming into the convo late.

@theOgre i was actually a Smuggler.. and if you dont know how they dumb down things in NGE trying to be more accessible and WoWish then i can't help you.

Despite the fact that I agree with Darkmoone that this game is a shell of what it once was(I still have yet to find such an awesome class/skill system), I am often tempted to return but I wonder if it's really worth it. I mean, how many people are still playing this?

@lostparadigm

The fallout from the NGE is very far reaching, however, I will honestly say at this point most of the original damage has been mitigated. Besides the profession system (which has been improved) most elements of the NGE have been reversed and even then with the Beast Master & combat Entertainer systems only the Jedi issue remains. The UI would be the next glaring remnant which can be fixed with http://www.modsource.org/ mods.
